DAY 2 AMSTERDAM <strong>The</strong> unique city of Amsterdam is built on a series of canals criss-crossed at regular intervals by a fine collection of bridges. It’s a city that’s packed with countless places of interest in a relatively small area. Everywhere you look there are bikes, it’s easy to see why it is the most popular mode of transport! Amsterdam is home to a fine selection of museums, from the evocative Anne Frank <strong>House</strong> to the can even take a cruise along some of the many canals for an alternative perspective. DAY 3 ZEEBRUGGE (for Bruges or Ghent) <strong>The</strong> Belgian port of Zeebrugge is part of Bruges, the Flemish capital. Join us to discover this charming city with its beautiful architecture and peaceful canals. <strong>The</strong> delightful old centre has an abundance of attractions from the traditional gabled houses and majestic churches to narrow cobbled streets. Take the time to sample the famous Belgian beer or try a few of the luxurious chocolates. Alternatively, you could visit Ghent, one of Belgium’s oldest cities, with its elegant mediaeval architecture, network of canals and cobbled streets. Why not take a boat trip through the canals for a different view of the city? DAY 4 HONFLEUR (for Monet’s Garden or Paris) This charming fishing port, a favourite haunt of the great impressionist painters, dates back to the 14th century. Take the time to visit the Lieutenancy, the former house of the Governor, and Saint Catherine Church, a rare example in Western Europe of a building made entirely of wood. Honfleur is also the ideal place from where to visit the exciting city of Paris. With its seductive architecture, superb shopping, delicious gastronomic delights and vibrant night life, Paris is a city which really does have it all. This enchanting city is famous for its romantic ambience and you can soak it all up as you sit in one of the pavement cafes and people watch, just like the locals. Make sure you also take in the famous sights of the Eiffel Tower. Alternatively, you could pay a visit to the beautiful gardens at Giverny. It is said that the history of France is written in her gardens and that is certainly true of Monet’s Garden at Giverny. From 1883 to 1926, Monet planted and painted here and the garden is most famous for its lily pond, the inspiration for some of his best known works such as his famous Waterlilies. Don’t miss the beautiful Japanese bridge hung with wisteria and other delightful features. DAY 5 DOVER We disembark Athena after breakfast for the journey home.
