Welcome
From Kennesaw State University
N
ow in its fourth year, the All State Art Symposium (ASAS), sponsored by the Georgia Art
Education Association, continued the tradition of tremendous statewide participation
with just under 800 students submitting over 1,100 works this year. Of these works
the district jurors selected 512 works as district winners. Mark Mason Karelson, director
of Mason Murer Fine Art in Atlanta, served as state juror and selected over 130 works for
the ASAS Exhibition from which the ASAS Award winners were chosen. ASAS is open to
all public and private high school students and promotes the visual arts as a vital part of
the school curriculum. Kennesaw State University is honored to host this yearly event that
provides an opportunity for young high school students to showcase their talent, learn from art
professionals, and further develop their artistic skills. Congratulations to all the participating
students and their teachers.
Creatively yours,
Welcome
From the Georgia Art Education Association
The All-State Art Symposium began as a way for public and private high school art
students to compete with their peers on the state level. All-State stands apart from
other exhibits in that workshops are offered as part of the experience. Students eagerly
anticipate this event and are truly honored when their work is selected. The Symposium
promotes dialog between these emerging artists and expands their understanding of various
media. We are pleased that Kennesaw State University has assisted in continuing an “All-
State” type of experience for our students.
On behalf of the Georgia Art Association, I would like to congratulate to the nearly 800
students across Georgia who have participated in the 2012 All State Art Symposium! Each
of you has shown tremendous leadership by participating in this statewide competition. The
future the of the arts in Georgia looks bright! Thank you to all of the 82 teachers who have
assisted and mentored the talented students who have submitted work to be juried in the All
State Art Symposium.
