LURTON FAMILY VALUES
Lurton is one of the great and
far-reaching family names of
Bordeaux. It stands for outstanding
quality, often with a sprinkling of
innovation, dynamism and sheer
class thrown in. The family tree is
complex with numerous fine
properties managed, owned,
bought, sold, or handed down
through five generations. Today, it
is the younger generation who are
in the spotlight. All have more than
earned their stripes – from
Bérénice, the youngest of Lucien
Lurton’s ten children when she
took over the running of the great
Barsac estate, Climens, at the
tender age of 22; to Sophie and
her husband Laurent, who have
raised Bouscaut to be one of the
best châteaux of the Pessac
appellation; to the dizzy heights
of Cheval Blanc and Yquem,
now managed by their cousin,
Pierre Lurton.
Reds
J-CM12221 Château Duplessis, 2005, Moulis £11.95 bottle £143 dozen
Marie-Laure Lurton makes this engaging Claret, which in 2005 has the typical healthy,
generous fruit of the vintage, with pure red-fruit aromas and sweet palate with ripe fruit
freshness to balance. Now to 2017. 13.5%
J-CM14831 Château Bouscaut, Rouge, 2008, Pessac-Léognan £23 bottle £276 dozen
One of the discoveries of the vintage with lovely round supple fruit and spicy texture.
7% old-vine malbec adds special fruit quality to the traditional 48% cabernet sauvignon
and 45% merlot. A real triumph for Sophie and Laurent Lurton-Cogombles and already
delicious when tasted last autumn. 2013 to 2023. 13%
J-CM12261 Château Desmirail, 2005, Margaux £28 bottle £336 dozen
J-CM9781 Château Durfort-Vivens, 2000, Margaux £35 bottle £420 dozen
second-growth property. His 2000 shows wonderful individuality and distinction with
lovely length and ‘middle’ to the palate. The quality of both the cabernet sauvignon
and cabernet franc was exceptional. Now to 2020. 12.5%
Château Brane-Cantenac, 2004, Margaux
