LOCAL AREA<br />

Kendrew barracks is located in Rutland situated between Leicester and Peterborough.<br />

Stamford is approximately 12 miles away and has a wide selection of high street stores,<br />

restaurants and supermarkets. Stamford market is held every Friday and a number of stall<br />

holders are also present on Saturdays in the high street.<br />

Oakham is Rutland’s County town and is approximately 6 miles away and offers a number of<br />

small shops, restaurants, takeaways and small Tesco. A market is held every Wednesday in<br />

the high street.<br />

Peterborough, Leicester and Corby are within 30 miles of <strong>Cottesmore</strong>.<br />

UNIT OVERVIEW<br />

Second Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment<br />

Commonly referred to as the Poachers, the Royal Anglian Regiment is the Infantry Regiment<br />

for the ten counties of East Anglia and the East Midlands. The Regiment has been stationed in<br />

a number of locations in the past twenty five years, including Warminster, Chepstow,<br />

Ballykelly, Tern Hill, Celle and most recently Dhekelia. The Battalion has completed<br />

operational tours in Sierra Leone, Iraq, Northern Ireland and Afghanistan and are currently<br />

training for a second tour of Afghanistan.<br />

Ashwell Block – Includes the Nursery, HIVE, CDW, Thrift shop, Hairdresser,<br />

Tailors and Welfare Office. Free Internet is also available in the HIVE<br />

Bowling Alley – Located next to SFA on Garth Street, The four lane tenpin bowling<br />

centre has bar facilities and is open to all ranks.<br />

Community Centre – Located next to the Spar Shop, A range of sessions run on a<br />

weekly basis<br />

Gymnasium – Open to dependants, an induction course is required for current<br />

open hours contact 01572 812241 x7300.<br />

Internet Facility –2 terminals available within the HIVE.


Laundrette – Self service open 7 days a week.<br />

Local Shop – Open 7 days a week for Groceries, Magazines, Lottery, Cash point<br />

ACCOMMODATION<br />

There are approximately 458 SFA all of which are within the Station perimeter. Housing is<br />

made up of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom properties. Officers’ accom<strong>mod</strong>ation is predominantly<br />

detached with garages. All other ranks accom<strong>mod</strong>ation is a combination of semi detached and<br />

terraced properties. Garages are available in blocks.<br />

Single Living Accom<strong>mod</strong>ation (SLA)<br />

Single living accom<strong>mod</strong>ation has not been part of the project SLAM. All are single man rooms<br />

with communal shower/toilet facility. Each block has kitchen and laundry facilities.<br />
