The Editor<br />

As we embark on a new year, The <strong>Bay</strong> Window magazine will undergo a time<br />

honored face lift. The oldest continuously published magazine in the O.C. dating<br />

to 1948 has enjoyed a classy reputation for 64 years as a pre eminent publication<br />

chronicling the good life on the Orange Coast.<br />

Debuting in the second quarter, the more contemporary magazine will roll<br />

out in a format with new size, new paper, new graphics, and most importantly,<br />

new, improved content.<br />

To achieve this goal we are inviting BBC members who feel they have a desire<br />

and the ability to submit copy on a variety of subjects to audition for column<br />

space in the new magazine. We seek writers covering the following areas.<br />

1. Family Life<br />

2. Business and Finance<br />

3. Real Estate, Architecture and Design<br />

4. Health and Medicine<br />

5. Fitness, Diet and Nutrition<br />

6. New Technology<br />

7. Dining, Cooking, Recipes, Entertaining.<br />

Articles must be current and factual. Opinion/editorializing, while acceptable,<br />

This time of year we tend to reevaluate our lifestyle and vow to make better choices through the<br />

Dear Members,<br />

We have seen quite a few changes at The <strong>Balboa</strong> <strong>Bay</strong> Club this past year and, as we welcome <strong>2013</strong>,<br />

there are more exciting improvements to come. Plans to enhance the Members Lounge and Henry’s<br />

Bistro area are in their final stages and we are looking forward to presenting these designs to you soon.<br />

If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to change your eating habits or trim those extra pounds<br />

gained over the holidays, I would like to assure you that our culinary team is happy to comply with<br />

any dietary requirements that you might have. Chef Josef and his team are well versed in gluten-free,<br />

vegetarian, vegan and lactose-free dishes and they enjoy the challenge of creating new dishes that are<br />

both tasty and healthy.<br />

Our recreation team is looking forward to assisting you, whether you choose to increase your<br />

work-outs in the gym, or perhaps you prefer to work with one of our trainers doing yoga, pilates, spin,<br />

cardio fit barre, or maybe a personal training program? Additionally, we are purchasing a number of<br />

NBCC WELCOMES SCPGA GOLFERS TO THE CLUB!<br />

The Newport Beach Country Club proudly welcomed members of the<br />

SCPGA on Monday, December 3rd. The SCPGA’s Pinehurst<br />

Championship was played at The Newport Beach Country Club in<br />

conjunction with the Southern California Professional Golfer’s of America<br />

Annual Meeting which was held at The <strong>Balboa</strong> <strong>Bay</strong> Club on Sunday,<br />

December 2nd and Monday, December 3rd.<br />

Happy New Year! I hope you all<br />

enjoyed your holidays and I want to<br />

thank you for joining us for our festive<br />

holiday events. Our Children’s Breakfast<br />

with Santa once again sold out! It was<br />

great to see all those smiling faces as<br />

Santa joined them for a truly magical<br />

morning. Of course there was plenty of<br />

holiday magic for the big kids as well.<br />

Our Candlelight Holiday buffets, the<br />

Member Holiday Gala and December<br />

Birthday Night gave all our members a chance to experience the<br />

holiday magic.<br />

As for this month, can you believe <strong>2013</strong> is here already? I know<br />

I can’t but ready or not here we go. At The Newport Beach Country<br />

Club we have a full tournament calendar of great golf events for all<br />

our members to enjoy. As for our friends at The <strong>Balboa</strong> <strong>Bay</strong> Club we<br />

invite you to come and enjoy our new breakfast and lunch menus.<br />

Since rolling out our new menus in mid November our members<br />

have had many wonderful compliments to share with us. But don’t<br />

take their word for it, as <strong>Balboa</strong> <strong>Bay</strong> Club members you can enjoy<br />

dining privileges at the Newport Beach Country Club so come by<br />

and see for yourselves.<br />

GOLF NEWS:<br />

The Newport Beach Country Club’s ladies group once again<br />

out did themselves at their holiday tournament. Not only did<br />

they have a great day on the course they also managed a very<br />

successful toy drive. Every year our ladies donate lots and lots<br />

of toys that are picked up by the Newport Beach Fire<br />

Department. The toys are then distributed to deserving<br />

children so that they may experience the joy of the holiday<br />

season. We thank our ladies for this tradition of giving and for<br />

challenging themselves to make each year more successful than<br />

the last.<br />

CLUB OPERATIONS<br />

As I write this column about a month ahead of its release in the<br />

<strong>Bay</strong> Window, the decorations are up, we’ve just had the holiday<br />

lighting ceremony and my leftovers from Thanksgiving have finally<br />

been finished!<br />

But WOW, what a wonderful way to start off the season with a<br />

million lights being turned on to a 60 piece band, an array of lighting<br />

effects and confetti cannons blanketing the sky. The wonderful thing<br />

is that is just the beginning of what will undoubtedly be another<br />

amazing year of holiday celebrations at the <strong>Balboa</strong> <strong>Bay</strong> Club.<br />

Looking ahead, it is very exciting to see the plans for what will<br />

undoubtedly be a huge year for the Club. With new equipment in the gym, a whole new<br />

members only restaurant and bar for the Clubhouse and renovations throughout the entire<br />

property, <strong>2013</strong> promises to be a busy year for your Club.<br />

As I mention often, you, the member are the best source of ideas for our new direction, so<br />

please don’t be afraid to speak up, tell me your ideas and suggestions, let me know what you’d<br />

like to see happen around the Club.<br />

So here’s to a great New Year. May it be prosperous, healthy and most especially happy for<br />

you and your families.<br />

Welcome to <strong>2013</strong>! Although every day and every time of year is a<br />

great time to be a BBC member, many of us find the New Year to be a<br />

great time to revisit the Club. With our new resolutions in mind the<br />

fitness center is ready for you with great Yoga, Pilates, Spinning and Barre<br />

classes available. If treating your self is on your resolution list, stop by The<br />

Spa for a Lift and Glow Facial. It‘s a great way to brighten up your skin<br />

during the dry winter months and to help you start the New Year with<br />

a fresh lifted look. Many of us after the holidays realize how great it is<br />

to be surrounded by friends and family so make a reservation for all of<br />

As we kick back and relax after all the family and festivities we<br />

enjoyed to usher out 2012, we reflect back a little. We think back to<br />

the friends we got to see and enjoy over the holidays. We remember<br />

the joy and laughter spent with family and the memories of days<br />

gone by. We are happily enjoying the toys that Santa brought each<br />

of us this past holiday. We shared joy and memories of the year on<br />

New Year’s Eve and we have that glimmer in our eye as we all<br />

remember that favorite dessert that Chef Josef and his staff made<br />

and you consumed!<br />

But it’s now a new year and the time has come to put away the<br />

decorations and turn over that new leaf you promised yourself. New resolutions are usually<br />

items like, lose the weight you gained over the holidays, or read a new book. May I suggest one?<br />

Why don’t you get in contact with that friend you didn’t get to see over the holidays and meet<br />

Happy New Year and welcome to the beginning of <strong>2013</strong>! Being<br />

positive individuals, we have made it through the year and hopefully<br />

will have a bright year ahead. If you have your health and your<br />

happiness, then you are the luckiest person on the planet! With that<br />

in mind, at The <strong>Bay</strong> Club Grill we have a plan to start the New Year<br />

continuing with our fabulous service and fine dining at our beautiful<br />

restaurant, which overlooks the Newport <strong>Bay</strong>. My goal is simply to<br />

uphold The <strong>Bay</strong> Club Grill’s traditions of great food and top notch<br />

service and to consistently surpass our member’s expectations.<br />
