The Editor 

As we embark on a new year, The Bay Window magazine will undergo a time 

honored face lift. The oldest continuously published magazine in the O.C. dating 

to 1948 has enjoyed a classy reputation for 64 years as a pre eminent publication 

chronicling the good life on the Orange Coast. 

Debuting in the second quarter, the more contemporary magazine will roll 

out in a format with new size, new paper, new graphics, and most importantly, 

new, improved content. 

To achieve this goal we are inviting BBC members who feel they have a desire 

and the ability to submit copy on a variety of subjects to audition for column 

space in the new magazine. We seek writers covering the following areas. 

1. Family Life 

2. Business and Finance 

3. Real Estate, Architecture and Design 

4. Health and Medicine 

5. Fitness, Diet and Nutrition 

6. New Technology 

7. Dining, Cooking, Recipes, Entertaining. 

8. Travel 

9. Yachting

12. Arts and Entertainment—movies, television and music. 

Articles must be current and factual. Opinion/editorializing, while acceptable, 

must be clearly defined and without hostility. We remain a classy publication 

with the purpose of entertaining and informing, not insulting. Copy should be 500 

to 700 words maximum. Please submit your bio and color photo too.

decision to do something, involving firmness of mind and purpose. There it is, spelled out! 

This time of year we tend to reevaluate our lifestyle and vow to make better choices through the

Dear Members, 

We have seen quite a few changes at The Balboa Bay Club this past year and, as we welcome 2013, 

there are more exciting improvements to come. Plans to enhance the Members Lounge and Henry’s 

Bistro area are in their final stages and we are looking forward to presenting these designs to you soon. 

If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to change your eating habits or trim those extra pounds 

gained over the holidays, I would like to assure you that our culinary team is happy to comply with 

any dietary requirements that you might have. Chef Josef and his team are well versed in gluten-free, 

vegetarian, vegan and lactose-free dishes and they enjoy the challenge of creating new dishes that are 

both tasty and healthy. 

Our recreation team is looking forward to assisting you, whether you choose to increase your 

work-outs in the gym, or perhaps you prefer to work with one of our trainers doing yoga, pilates, spin, 

cardio fit barre, or maybe a personal training program? Additionally, we are purchasing a number of 

brand new paddle boards that you can rent and take your workout onto the water.

NBCC WELCOMES SCPGA GOLFERS TO THE CLUB! 

The Newport Beach Country Club proudly welcomed members of the 

SCPGA on Monday, December 3rd. The SCPGA’s Pinehurst 

Championship was played at The Newport Beach Country Club in 

conjunction with the Southern California Professional Golfer’s of America 

Annual Meeting which was held at The Balboa Bay Club on Sunday, 

December 2nd and Monday, December 3rd.

Happy New Year! I hope you all 

enjoyed your holidays and I want to 

thank you for joining us for our festive 

holiday events. Our Children’s Breakfast 

with Santa once again sold out! It was 

great to see all those smiling faces as 

Santa joined them for a truly magical 

morning. Of course there was plenty of 

holiday magic for the big kids as well. 

Our Candlelight Holiday buffets, the 

Member Holiday Gala and December 

Birthday Night gave all our members a chance to experience the 

holiday magic. 

As for this month, can you believe 2013 is here already? I know 

I can’t but ready or not here we go. At The Newport Beach Country 

Club we have a full tournament calendar of great golf events for all 

our members to enjoy. As for our friends at The Balboa Bay Club we 

invite you to come and enjoy our new breakfast and lunch menus. 

Since rolling out our new menus in mid November our members 

have had many wonderful compliments to share with us. But don’t 

take their word for it, as Balboa Bay Club members you can enjoy 

dining privileges at the Newport Beach Country Club so come by 

and see for yourselves.

GOLF NEWS: 

The Newport Beach Country Club’s ladies group once again 

out did themselves at their holiday tournament. Not only did 

they have a great day on the course they also managed a very 

successful toy drive. Every year our ladies donate lots and lots 

of toys that are picked up by the Newport Beach Fire 

Department. The toys are then distributed to deserving 

children so that they may experience the joy of the holiday 

season. We thank our ladies for this tradition of giving and for 

challenging themselves to make each year more successful than 

the last.

CLUB OPERATIONS 

As I write this column about a month ahead of its release in the 

Bay Window, the decorations are up, we’ve just had the holiday 

lighting ceremony and my leftovers from Thanksgiving have finally 

been finished! 

But WOW, what a wonderful way to start off the season with a 

million lights being turned on to a 60 piece band, an array of lighting 

effects and confetti cannons blanketing the sky. The wonderful thing 

is that is just the beginning of what will undoubtedly be another 

amazing year of holiday celebrations at the Balboa Bay Club. 

Looking ahead, it is very exciting to see the plans for what will 

undoubtedly be a huge year for the Club. With new equipment in the gym, a whole new 

members only restaurant and bar for the Clubhouse and renovations throughout the entire 

property, 2013 promises to be a busy year for your Club. 

As I mention often, you, the member are the best source of ideas for our new direction, so 

please don’t be afraid to speak up, tell me your ideas and suggestions, let me know what you’d 

like to see happen around the Club. 

So here’s to a great New Year. May it be prosperous, healthy and most especially happy for 

you and your families.

As we kick back and relax after all the family and festivities we

Happy New Year and welcome to the beginning of 2013! Being 

positive individuals, we have made it through the year and hopefully 

will have a bright year ahead. If you have your health and your

Burns’ Birthday. Burns Suppers have been part of 

Scottish culture for about 200 years as a means of 

commemorating their best loved bard. The ritual, 

started by close friends of Burns a few years after 

his death in 1796, is now a tribute to his memory.
