Brick_Wood_Stone_Land_Water_Measurement
The Three Notch’d Road ran from Charlottesville to Rockfish Gap and served as the outer boundary for the April
land purchase of 1825. The 1825 land agreement permitted Jefferson to re-establish the bed of the public road
along the new outlying boundary line, causing it to pass parallel to the northern side of the University, making
room for an entrance to the Rotunda and Lawn.
