Malachi 4:4

rejoice at his birth. 15 For he will be great in the sight of 

the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. 

He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his 

mother’s womb.

and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to 

the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the

certain priest named Zacharias, of the division of 

Abijah. His wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her 

name was Elizabeth. 6 And they were both righteous 

before God, walking in all the commandments and 

ordinances of the Lord blameless. 7 But they had no 

child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were 

both well advanced in years.

Who have been since the world began, 

71 That we should be saved from our enemies 

And from the hand of all who hate us, 




74 To grant us that we, 

Being delivered from the hand of our enemies, 

Might serve Him without fear,

To guide our feet into the way of peace.” 

80 So the child grew and became strong in spirit, and was in the 

deserts till the day of his manifestation to Israel.

Matthew 3 In those days John the Baptist came preaching in 

the wilderness of Judea, 2 and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom 

of heaven is at hand!” 3 For this is he who was spoken of by the 

prophet Isaiah, saying: 

“The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 

‘Prepare the way of the Lord; 

Make His paths straight.’ ” 

4 Now John himself was clothed in camel’s hair, with a leather 

belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey. 

5 Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the 

Jordan went out to him 6 and were baptized by him in the Jordan, 

confessing their sins.



2 And when John had heard in prison about the 

works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples 3 and 

said to Him, “Are You the Coming One, or do we 

look for another?” 

4 Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell 

John the things which you hear and see: 5 John the things which you hear and see: The 

blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are 

cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised 

up and the poor have the gospel preached to 

them. 6 And blessed is he who is not offended 

because of Me.” from the days of John the 

Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers 

violence, and the violent take it by force.



7 As they departed, Jesus began to say to the 

multitudes concerning John: “What did you go 

out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by 

the wind? 8 But what did you go out to see? A 

man clothed in soft garments? Indeed, those who 

wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses. 9 wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses. But 

what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say 

to you, and more than a prophet.



10 For this is he of whom it is written: 

‘Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, 

Who will prepare Your way before You.’ 

11 “Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of 

women there has not risen one greater than John 

the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of 

heaven is greater than he. 12 And from the days 

of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of 

heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it 

by force.



13 For all the prophets and the
