<strong>Prayer</strong> with their shoes on, or while standing atop their shoes. In the first instance, the shoes as<br />
well as the ground must be clean – and in the second instance, the shoes must be clean.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Funeral <strong>Prayer</strong> consists of two main Obligations:-<br />
<strong>Of</strong>fering it while standing<br />
Proclaiming “ Allahu Akbar” 4 times.<br />
<strong>The</strong> following three are Emphasised Sunnah (Muakkadah) in the Funeral <strong>Prayer</strong>:-<br />
Glorifying Allah – by reciting “ Sanaa”<br />
<strong>Of</strong>fering salutations and greetings upon the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon<br />
him).<br />
Praying for the deceased.<br />
It is better to have three (or an odd number) of rows in the Funeral <strong>Prayer</strong>.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Method of Funeral <strong>Prayer</strong><br />
At first make a proper intention (Niyah) and proclaiming “ Allahu Akbar” , fold the hands below<br />
the navel, and recite the following “ Sanaa” :-<br />
Subhaanakal-laahumma wa bihamdika wa tabaarakasmuka wa ta-alaa jadduka wa jalla sanaauka<br />
wa laa Ilaaha gayruk..<br />
"Purity is to You, O Allah! And I Praise You, Most Auspicious is Your name and Supreme is<br />
Your majesty; and most high is Your glory, and there is no God except You."<br />
<strong>The</strong>n proclaim “ Allahu Akbar” without raising the hands and recite the Salutation upon the<br />
Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). It is better to recite the same one as in the<br />
Qaadah of normal <strong>Prayer</strong>. Reciting any other Salutation is also permitted.<br />
<strong>The</strong>n proclaim “ Allahu Akbar” without raising the hands and recite the following supplication:<br />
If the deceased is an ad<strong>ul</strong>t male or female<br />
Allahummaghfir Le-hayyinaa wa mayyetenaa, wa shaahedenaa wa ghaaebenaa,<br />
wa sagherenaa wa kabeerenaa, wa zakarenaa wa unsaanaa; Allahumma man<br />
ahyaytahoo minnaa fa-ahyehi alal-islaame wa man tawaffaytuhoo minnaa<br />
fatawaffahoo alal-imaan.<br />
“ O our Allah! Forgive our living and our dead, and our present and our absent<br />
ones, and our young and our old, and our males and our females; O our Allah –<br />
those among us whom You keep alive, keep them alive upon Islam – and to those<br />
among us whom You give death, cause them to die upon faith.”
