The success of the program
can be measured by the intense
student interest and
demand it has awakened. A
feature of the program is the
tutorials given by specially
qualified and trained students,
which provide individual or
Apple Authorized Training
Center for Education
The UW media design workshop
is one of three such
units at German universities
officially certified as Apple
Authorized Training Centers
for Education (AATCe). These
enable students, after appropriate
training and an examination
(in English), to qualify as
‘Apple Certified Pro’ or ‚Final
Cut Pro’. The first UW students
to gain this decisive career
advantage qualified at the
end of winter semester 2009-
2010.
Since 2009 Apple’s Munich
office has been using the UW
workshop for its nationwide
qualification sessions – e.g.
Apple Tech Series courses
on operating systems. The
cooperation with Apple – the
established international leader
in design technology –
provides the university itself,
as well as its media design
program and students, with a
unique boost in quality and
standing.
Teaching and
research
The media design
workshop is used
for computerbased
seminars as
well as individual
student work. Synergies
between
the various areas of
media design will be
enhanced in the near
future by the addition
of new professorships
for interactive and audiovisual
media.
Workshop equipment has recently
been upgraded with the
addition of new Apple MacPro
computers and network structures
financed within the
framework of the German
Research Foundation’s Integrative
Cross-Media Communication
project at UW. It is
now possible to run PC and
Apple computer systems on
the same hardware, and thus
to use integrated visual and
presentation technologies in
both teaching and research.
The aim is to develop, analyze
and apply methodical design
processes and parallel didactic
and communicative concepts.
Not only for research and
teaching, but also for the future
career prospects of UW
graduates, the media design
workshop forms the basis of
an excellent all-round qualification
and a reflective aproach to
media design and design technology.
