Sub-meter differential GPS
accuracy for precision farming
The data collected in precision
farming, such as soil types,
fertility, insect infestations,
and crop yields, are dependent
upon accurate position information.
The differential GPS
receiver is the heart of your
precision farming system,
providing a way to measure
performance from year to
year.
The Trimble AgGPS
Model 122 differential GPS
receiver uses free differential
correction signals to output
positions with sub-meter
accuracy from a single mobile
receiver. It receives both the
free GPS satellite signals and
free differential correction
broadcasts from governmentestablished
navigation beacon
reference stations around the
world. These beacon stations
provide differential correction
information that enables the
AgGPS 122 to output repeatable
position information,
without the requirement
of setting up and managing
a reference station on your
farm.
The AgGPS 122 is
designed for easy installation
by combining both the GPS
receiver and the differential
correction receiver into a
single package. To ensure
that the AgGPS 122 can be
powered off the machine’s
power system, it has been
designed to operate from a
wide range of power input
voltages, from 10 to 32 volts.
The AgGPS 122 is easy
to connect to a wide range of
precision agriculture equipment,
including yield monitors,
variable rate planters,
and spray application controllers.
It outputs an
industry-standard data format
known as NMEA 0183. The
user-selectable outputs include
position, velocity, navigation
information, and status information.
The standard configuration
outputs positions once
per second with very low
latency. For applications on
faster moving vehicles, the
AgGPS122 can optionally
output 10 positions per
second, with latency of less
than 100 ms. The beacon
differential correction receiver
built into the AgGPS 122 is
a Trimble proprietary, dualchannel,
all-digital design providing
superior performance.
It is highly sensitive, allowing
it to receive corrections at distances
of hundreds of miles
from the reference stations.
A single high performance
magnetic loop antenna
receives both GPS and
differential signals. The all
weather antenna is designed
for easy mounting.
The AgGPS 122 includes
a high accuracy GPS engine
with improved ionosphere and
troposphere models. It is built
with Trimble’s proprietary
GPS chip technology. Its
multi-bit front-end quantizer
provides for superior jam
immunity. It provides
sub-meter differential accurate
positions and offers differential
speed accuracy of better
than 0.1 mile per hour (0.16
kph), therefore eliminating
the need for an external speed
sensor. The positions are computed
using robust differential
processing techniques, allowing
you to begin operation a
few seconds after you switch
on your machine. The GPS
engine is configured to accept
an external source of RTCM
SC-104 differential corrections
if you are out of range
of a Coast Guard beacon.
