Australian Ancestors’ Project
• Aim is to trace the development of the Australian
English accent from inception through to the
present day.
• The first stage is to examine old recordings of
people born in the 19 th century.
• This will help us to ascertain historical aspects of
the accent and also explore some unresolved
issues about sound change.
