Discover the B-side
In the opposite direction of White
Beach is Bulabog Beach, Boracay’s
kiteboarding zone; a short stroll can
take you there from D’Mall. This side
of the island offers a totally different
vibe — quieter, more laidback, and
with elements of the “old Boracay.”
Get a taste of the local life the way
it was at the Lazy Dog Bed and
Breakfast (tel: +63 36 288 4128, www.
lazydogboracay.com), which offers
simple yet cozy accommodations and
a calming, homey atmosphere. The
alfresco common dining area also
serves as social central, where owners
Fly a kite
Boracay’s Bulabog Beach has
also been dubbed one of the best
kiteboarding beaches in Asia —
because when the wind is high, the
kites really fl y. Over the years, the
number of thrill-seeking pilgrims has
steadily risen, and now the beach is
home to a large population of visiting
and long-staying kiteboarders. If you
want to try it, learn from international
windsurf champion Nenette Graf, a
native of Aklan who started the fi rst kite
school in Boracay with German Angel
Parzhuber and American kite instructor
Chris Awe as partners. Look for them in
Green Yard, Bulabog Beach.
Find your balance
Boracay’s reputation as a party place
isn’t unfounded — you’ll see the proof
in the nightspots that dot White Beach.
After a night of partying, set aside
a period of recovery — and time to
stretch out and return to healthy form
— at True Yoga (2nd Floor, True Food
Indian Restaurant along Station 2; tel:
+63 947 531 0042). The studio, set
up by a few local residents, offers yoga
sessions for fi rst-timers, beginners and
advanced practitioners at 9am any
day of the week (and you get a great
view of the sea in the morning on top
of that). Yoga mats are provided, so
all you need to bring is an open mind!
They also host international teachers
who conduct workshops and retreats on
the island. Classes are at PHP400 for
walk-ins; but you can also avail of the
Weekly Unlimited Pass for PHP1,500
or the 10-Class Pass for PHP2,000. PHOTOS LESTER LEDESMA (TRUE YOGA), FRANCISCO GUERRERO (BULABOG), PAULA GUINTO (LAZY DOG BED AND BREAKFAST) ON SHIN BIKINI BY RIPCURL
