class has been started.<br />

• Riders will have three minutes between classes<br />

to change attire <strong>and</strong>/or equipment. Two h<strong>and</strong>lers<br />

per horse will be allowed into the arena to<br />

help the exhibitors with changes. H<strong>and</strong>lers will<br />

be allowed into the arena before the three-minute<br />

start <strong>and</strong> will be asked to form in the center<br />

of the arena. Riders must retire to the rail before<br />

starting the three-minute changing period.<br />

Exhibitors will ride or lead their horses toward<br />

the center when time is called <strong>and</strong> return back<br />

to the rail before time expires.<br />

• The order of the classes will be: hunt seat equitation,<br />

Western horsemanship, <strong>and</strong> barrel racing.<br />

The first two classes will have a pattern with<br />

optional rail work from the judge. Barrel racing<br />

will follow the same rules as outlined below in<br />

the Barrel Racing section of Timed Events.<br />

• The top 10 individuals in each of the classes<br />

will be placed <strong>and</strong> tabulated using the following<br />

formula: first place — 10 points, second place<br />

— 9 points, <strong>and</strong> so on. Points will be kept with<br />

each of the seven districts, <strong>and</strong> final awards will<br />

go to the district with the most points. A judge,<br />

separate from the state fair judges, will be used<br />

for the team competition.<br />

• Following the conclusion of each of the district<br />

classes, each exhibitor must let the district show<br />

manager know his or her intentions. This list<br />

of three individuals will be turned in to the<br />

<strong>Kansas</strong> <strong>State</strong> 4-H office with the show report.<br />

Any changes made after this time must be done<br />

through the extension horse specialist or extension<br />

youth coordinator by August 1st.<br />

Required<br />

• Western hat or protective headgear.<br />

• Long sleeved Western shirt with a collar, no<br />

scoop-neck shirts.<br />
