• Lack of smooth, straight stop on haunches or a<br />
bouncing or sideways stop.<br />
• Refusing to change leads.<br />
• Anticipating signals.<br />
• Stumbling.<br />
• Backing sideways.<br />
• Knocking over markers.<br />
• Losing stirrup.<br />
• Failure to run circles or figure 8s within the<br />
markers is not considered a fault, depending on<br />
arena conditions <strong>and</strong> size; however failure to go<br />
beyond markers on stops or rollbacks is considered<br />
a fault.<br />
Credit will be given <strong>and</strong> applied against faults for<br />
smoothness, finesse, attitude, quickness, <strong>and</strong> authority<br />
of performing various maneuvers.<br />
A judge shall have the authority to require the removal<br />
or alteration of any piece of equipment which,<br />
in his or her opinion, would tend to give a horse an<br />
unfair advantage.<br />
Riders shall drop the bit out of the horse’s mouth<br />
for inspection if requested to do so by show management<br />
or the judge.<br />
Judges may select any of the reining patterns 1, 2, 3,<br />
4, 5, or 6.<br />
Markers should be placed on the wall or rail of the<br />
arena indicating the center of the arena <strong>and</strong> each end<br />
of the arena. The end markers should be at least 40<br />
feet from the end of the arena.<br />
Where designated in the pattern for stops to be<br />
beyond a marker, the horse should begin a stop after<br />
it passes the specified marker.<br />
