som himlans blA och vallmons roda glansl
Snabbt och latt har unga steg
i fAders tid gdtt samma vag
till boljande och brokig sommardans.
E Ett ensamt skidspAr
Ett ensamt skidspdr som sdker
sig bort i skogarnas djup,
ett ensamt skidsper som krcjker
sig fram itver esar och stup,
dver myrar dar )asndn flyger
och martall ster gles och kort -
det ar min tanke som smyger
allt langre och lengre bort.
Ett ensamt skidsper som svinnet
i skogarnas ensamhet.
ett manskoliv som louinner
pd vagar som rngen vet -
i fianan forblevo svaren
pe frAgor som hjartat bar -
ett slingrande sp6r pe skaren
min irrande vanddng var.
Ett ensamt skidsp6r som slutar
vid plotsligt svikande brant
dar vindsliten fura lutar
sig ut 6ver klippans kant -
vad stjamorna blinka kalla,
hur sklmmande skogen star,
hur Iatta flingorna falla
pa dveNndade sper!
@ Mot ro"r
En geng mot non, mot norjag drog
till skogens landjag rymde.
I snbig tystnad livet dog
och vinterkvellen skymde.
Det susade i svartgr6n fur,
som dver vagen hAngde.
Fren varldens larm en evig mur
av skog och snd mig stangde.
Och stora stjiimor brunno klatt
och bleka nonsken landes.
Like heaven's blue and the poppy's crimson glow.
Quickl] and lightly the yoithful steps
In ancestral times walked the same path
To the lilting and disparate summer dance.
Three Songs to texts by Bertel Gripenberg
A Lonely Ski Tfail
A lonelt ski fail that leads
Away into the depths ofthe forest,
A lonelv ski trail that curves
Ils way over hills and steeps,
Over bogs where the new snow flies
And the old pines are sparse and stunted
It is my thoughts that creep
Further and further away.
A lonely ski trail that disappears
In the loneliness ofthe forest,
A human life that runs itselfout
On paths that no one knows -
The ans*ers remained far distant
Io the questions that filled the heart -
A meandering track on the icy snow
\!is m] roving way.
A lonely ski trail that ends
At a sudden precipice
Where windswept spruces lean
Out over the cliff's edge -
Hon'coldl] lhe stars twinkle,
HoB dark the forest stands,
How light the snow-flakes fall
Covering the trail.
To the North
Once to the north. to the north I went
To the forest's land I escaped
In snowy silence life then died
And the winter evening grew dark.
The wind sighed in the dark green fir
That leaned across my path.
From the sounds olthe world an invincible wall
Oftrees and snow shut me out.
And giant stars they shone so clearly
And the pale northem lights were lit
