The margin <strong>be</strong>tween porker products has increased by 18.8%<br />
from Septem<strong>be</strong>r <strong>to</strong> Oc<strong>to</strong><strong>be</strong>r. This can mainly <strong>be</strong> attributed <strong>to</strong><br />
a signifi cant increase in the price of marinated pork ribs. The<br />
wholesale prices for class P porker remained the same for this<br />
period at R20.5/kg. The index margin for porker products for<br />
Oc<strong>to</strong><strong>be</strong>r was 95.5%. On the other side, the index margin for<br />
baconer decreased by 1.7% with a value of 153.27% (base<br />
year = 2008). The wholesale price for BP baconer products<br />
have increased by R1/kg. The last recorded price for Oc<strong>to</strong><strong>be</strong>r<br />
2010 was R18.5/kg.<br />

Imports from August increased <strong>to</strong>wards Septem<strong>be</strong>r and Oc<strong>to</strong><strong>be</strong>r.<br />
The actual imports for Oc<strong>to</strong><strong>be</strong>r 2010 amounted <strong>to</strong> 2 241<br />
<strong>to</strong>nnes, 41% higher than imports in Septem<strong>be</strong>r. The three main<br />
imports by country were Germany, Canada and France. Most<br />
pork was imported from Germany with almost 1 180 <strong>to</strong>nnes in<br />
Oc<strong>to</strong><strong>be</strong>r, followed by Canada and then France with 326.98 and<br />
236.9 <strong>to</strong>nnes respectively. The <strong>to</strong>tal imports for the year until<br />
Oc<strong>to</strong><strong>be</strong>r 2010 were 20 752 <strong>to</strong>nnes.<br />
