info@moxa.com www.moxa.com
Industrial Computing
Challenges
Electrical automation systems require integration of many types of remote devices with different communication protocols. The use of IEC 61850 in
substation environment (Level 1) accentuates the problem. How to transform all the existing protocols using different communication systems in a single
protocol that is transparent to the center? How to ensure performance and availability?
Our solution
The Power Gateway integrates all devices in the substation environment, handling all the different protocols and existing communication systems. It provides
upstream data transport for all kind of services present in a distribution substation enabling transparent access to all equipment , delivering interoperability.
ELIPSE POWER HMI
Challenges
The use of intelligent devices (IED), fast local communication networks and new protocols such as IEC 61850 makes the local SCADA HMI a very important
component in the substation automation system.
The increasing number of IO tags requires a high performance SCADA and special tools in order to reduce development time and engineering/maintenance
costs. The large number of IO tags also increase commissioning costs with consequences both to the local application as well to the integration with the
control center.
Our solution
Elipse Power HMI is a substation SCADA system designed for fast and easy integration with a large number of IO tags, handling a wide range of protocols
(including IEC 61850) and delivering connectivity between different devices and systems. It can also manage all communication with control centers using
DNP 3, IEC 870-104 or ICCP. It includes a set of tools and algorithms that saves engineering costs.
The substation electrical model is the start point for developing any application from where all operation diagrams are automatically created. The
topological analysis algorithm animates the diagrams, with no need of specific logics, increasing safety and reducing engineering time required to develop
and commissioning the application.
Features
• Electrical CAD editor: defines your network connectivity and parameters, generating a database with all electrical information necessary to run analysis
algorithms.
• Topology Processor: responsible for processing and building the system’s topology, enabling to analyze which elements are energized or not, by coloring
components according to the voltage level.
• Protocols supported: IEC61850, IEC 60870-5-101/104 Master and Salve, IEC60870-5-103, DNP 3.0, SPAbus, Courier, SEL, and ModBus, among others.
• Maintain an up-to-date database of the electrical system, compatible with the IEC 61970 standard - Common Information Model CIM).
• Interface to Control Center application using protocols such as ICCP.
• Multiple Projects allow independent development, having several engineers working in the same application at the same time.
• Disturbance record upload from IED and oscillographic tool (Comtrade viewer) for the analysis of the fault event.
Benefits
• Decrease development time and commissioning costs.
• The topology processor highly increases the operation security, reevaluating the system in real time.
• Cost-effective step-by-step extension or modernization of legacy systems.
• Only limited knowledge about IEC 61850 required, automatically importing tag configuration from the IED´s.
Areas of application
• Small, medium and large substations
• Applications involving a large number of IEC 61850 devices
• High communication performance requirements
