boogskut.

Begrafnisreëlings is nog onbekend.

Toddler rushed to hospital
after playground accident

A THREE-YEAR-OLD boy fell off a jungle gym
slide at Ekuthuleni Lodge in Hoedspruit on
Sunday afternoon.
Xander Steenkamp was playing with other
children when the incident occurred. He fell
on his head and bit his tongue. He was found
lying still on the ground,
unconscious and blood gushing from his
mouth.

A 44-YEAR-OLD man died in a vehicle accident
after he lost control of his car near Smit
Boerdery between Hoedspruit and Tzaneen
on the R527 Road.
At about 02:15 last Saturday, Samuel Gezani
Baloyi from Maphalule Village was driving
toward Hoedspruit when his car rolled, during
which he sustained injuries which were to
prove fatal.
'The man was apparently alone in the car
when the accident happened.
Paramedics were called to the scene but the
man died while they were busy attending to his
Forum (CPF) assisted the boy with first aid.
Little Xander was then transported by the
Limpopo EMS Hoedspruit to the Drakensig
Military Hospital. Susan Steenkamp, Xander’s
mother said the ambulance responded quickly
and she was pleased with their services.
Xander is severely concussed and his head is
swollen. ‘My son is out of hospital and recovering
quickly, I thank Jaco Gericke for
responding as soon as he got a call’, said the
boy's mother.

inquest case. 'It is sad that people lose their
lives on the roads even in the month where the
world is holding the Remembrance Day for the

Traffic Victims takes place every year in
N o v e m b e r.
This Day was launched by Road Peace in
1993 and was adopted by the United Nations

TWO men suspected of robbing a supermarket
at Hoedspruit's 'old shopping centre'
appeared in the Hoedspruit's Magistrate Court
on Monday for theft.
The suspects, Calvin Mohlala (24) and
Tommy Adolph Kgotsoka (48) are suspected of
robbing the UJ supermarket last Wednesday.
'It is alleged that the suspects entered the
supermarket pretending to be customers,' said
Hoedspruit police spokesperson Constable
Livhuwani Mulaudzi.
Mulaudzi said when the owner was busy
speaking to one of the suspects, the other put
A PENSIONER was robbed of R3000 which he
kept in his house, last week Friday.
Acornhoek police spokesperson Lieutenant
Mpho Koli said that the 70-year-old man who
lives alone in Mooiset Trust in Acornhoek was
robbed after an unknown suspect entered his
house during the night.
'The victim said that he heard an unfamiliar
and undisclosed amount of cash into a plastic
bag before both suspects fled on foot.
They were later caught after the victim gave
their descriptions to the police.
Both suspects received a R1000 bail when
they appeared in the Hoedspruit Magistrate
Court and their case has been postponed to
November 26 for further investigation.
Mulaudzi said business owners must try not
to keep cash where criminals can easily access
it.
She added that business owners must deposit
their money at the bank each time they receive
more than R3000.

New Commander for
Hoedspruit police
ON Tuesday Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Ramakgokgo said
farewell to Hoedspruit police after taking a new post at the
Mankweni police station.
The former Hoedspruit Station Commander, who has
been in his post since January 2006, will be replaced by
Lieutenant Colonel Mackson Chabalala.
Looking at the tactics that the former Commander and
fellow police officers used to drive out criminals out of
Hoedspruit and it's surroundings there is no doubt that
Hoedspruit will continue to be the a town with normal
crime rates.
'Hoedspruit crime is normal and not out of control like
other places where crime is a burning issue,' said Ramakgokgo.
Ramakgokgo said that with his no nonsense management
style he has gained respect from fellow colleagues. Sticking
to the rules has also cost him friends during his career.
Ramakgokgo warned that staff could walk all over a
Commander if he is weak.
According to Ramakgokgo, when he arrived in Hoedspruit
the area was facing a huge crime spike with crime
like robbery, vehicle theft and dog poisoning.
'With the help from the residents, farm watch and antipoaching
units we managed to drive hooligans out of the
town,' he said.
The new police station Commander took up his duties on
Friday last week. Chabalala. was formerly a Station Commander
at Saselamani police station.
Hitchhiker stabbed several times
A HITCHHIKER was beaten and stabbed in the chest
several times after he refused to pay fare for other
hitchhikers he was driving with last Saturday.
It is alleged that the victim got into a vehicle with two
other women, also hitchhiking from a hiking stop in Finale
Village. The vehicle was driven by a man, and another man
was in the passenger seat.
'The victim told the police that when he reached his
destination he paid the driver his fare. But he was told by
the front seat passenger to pay for the two women as well,'
said Hoedspruit police spokesperson Constable Livhuwani
Mulaudzi.

According to Mulaudzi,
an argument
broke out which led
to a scuffle.
'The victim was beaten badly by the suspect and stabbed
several times,' said Mulaudzi.
She said the victim has been admitted to Sekororo
hospital.
The suspect, Calvin Phako (28), appeared in the Hoedspruit
Magistrate Court for assault with intent to cause
grievous bodily harm on Monday and his case has been
postponed to November 26 for further investigation.

Spend wisely this festive season
GOING into debt to buy presents or take a holiday over the
festive season can leave you paying far more than you
think, says Credit Ombudsman, Manie Van Schalkwyk.
'By the time December swings around, many consumers
feel they deserve to spend money on luxuries such as
branded clothing and footwear or going on a much-needed
holiday, but borrowing or cutting back on your credit
payments to fund these niceties can leave you with a nasty
hangover come January,' he adds.
According to the latest Credit Bureau Monitor's 2012
second quarter report, only 10.38 million of the 19.6
million credit-active consumers in South Africa are classified
as in good standing, meaning they were up-to-date
with their repayments. The report reveals that the number
of consumers with impaired records increased by 170 000
to 9.22 million during the previous quarter.
'Once you fall behind in your debt repayments, it can be
costly in terms of legal fees to try and get yourself out of
debt,’ said Van Schalkwyk. ’It's important to notify your
credit provider or speak to a debt counsellor as soon as you
find difficulty making repayments on any of your loans or
credit cards.'
Each year consumers splurge thousands of Rands on
unwanted gifts, but Van Schalkwyk suggests putting together
a strict budget for buying presents and sticking to it.
'Shoppers who don't have a list or plan before they head
for the shops often end up spending more or making
compulsive purchases leading to what's commonly
known as 'buyer's remorse'.
Making sure you can afford the product is an important
tactic, so weigh up what income you'll be earning, deduct
all your costs and expenses and see how much you are left
over with. Ensure that you have also taken into account big
expenses, such as school fees in January.
'People don't realise that by buying things on their
credit card, they will be paying interest rates of up to 21%
and if they take out a short-term loan it can cost them up to
60% interest,' says Van Schalkwyk.
That means if you're borrowing to buy a R1000 gift, at
the end of the first month the amount owing is not just the
R1000 , but with the costs and interest it can already be as
much as R1257,00 - excluding any insurance fees!
Van Schalkwyk suggests ten tips to ensure you start 2013
on a comfortable financial footing: Don't get sucked into
advertising and marketing deals, which are designed to
manipulate consumers into spending more over the Christmas
period.
Avoid buying from stores with limited return policies as
you want to be able to return goods if you need to. Even
exchange policies mean you can't get your money back,
you can only swop your product for something else.
Compare prices between stores before you go shopping.
Compare advertised rates and prices and use internet sites
such as pricecheck.co.za.
Work out how much your monthly instalment on your
credit repayments will be, taking into account interest
repayments.
Never borrow money to pay off other debts.
Be honest with yourself and your family about how much
you can afford to spend over the festive season and set this
money aside so you don't over-spend.
Rather than blowing your bonus on holiday luxuries,
rather set it aside to cover additional expenses in January.
If you apply for a loan over Christmas, be honest during
the affordability assessment. Take into account all of your
loans and expenses.
Watch out for advertisements that offer ’cheap’
short-term loans with no credit checks, they may be loan
sharks who will charge you very high interest rates and may
not be regulated by the National Credit Regulator (NCR).
Instead of paying interest on debt, rather save any extra
cash and earn interest instead. Over time this will add up
and you'll be in a better financial position over the next
y e a r.

Teenager raped twice
on railway track
An 18-year-old woman was raped last Saturday on her way
to her boyfriend’s house.
Acornhoek police are investigating a case of rape after an
unknown suspect raped a teenager walking along the
railway line behind the old
Acornhoek complex on Saturday
evening around 19:00.
It is alleged that the victim from Buffelshoek Village was
going to her boyfriend in Chavelagaza Village when she
noticed she was being followed.
'The girl was walking alone. As she was crossing the
railway track, an unknown suspect threatened her with a
knife before raping her twice,’ said Acornhoek police
spokesperson Lieutenant Mpho Koli.
Koli said that the victim wasn’t able to see the culprit
because it was
already dark.
She said people
must stop walking
alone in the dark.

HCS has fun in the sun
THE Intermediate Learning Centre of Hoedspruit Christian
School enjoyed a day together at Swadini on November
12.
The day was marked as one of the hottest days for the
week and students spent most of their time splashing in the
w a t e r.
The Grade 7 students used the opportunity to thank
Pastor Leon Erasmus and Mr Johan Potgieter, Administrator,
for their love, care, guidance and time throughout the
y e a r.
They also thanked their teachers and a lovely picnic
lunch was enjoyed by all.
It is always a privilege to watch the growth of our students
during the Intermediate Phase, (Grade 4 – 7).
As I stood back and gave the Grade 7 students the
opportunity to thank those who had built into their lives,
my heart swelled with gratitude.
What an honour it is to work with young lives – our
future!

Anglers excel during tournament
THE boat crew Mia and their new Mercury took the first place and won
themselves a 630 Cobra Cat during the ET Bill & Gamefish Tournament,
hosted by the Mpumalanga Deep Sea Angling Association from
November 4. The skipper is Johan van Vuren and crew, Herman
Dickinson, Francois Bezuidenhout and Flip Roodt.

FRANCOIS van Staden has been awarded the
AFB Hoedspruit MSC Junior Sportsman of the
Year award for 2012.
Van Staden had an exceptional golfing year
not only as a junior golfer but he also competed
with the big boys at Drakensig Golf
Club, Soutpansberg Golf Club and Sun City.
At provincial level he was chosen to represent
Mpumalanga in all their Inter Provincial
Match Play Tournaments with great success.

His good performance on provincial level
earned him a spot in the Mpumalanga U/ 15
team that competed in the SA U/15 championships
held at Somerset Wes Golf Club in
April.
Francois was also awarded full
Mpumalanga colours for golf, for a second
year in a row.
He won the Sanlam Cancer Challenge at
Drakensig and went on to represent Drakensig
THE Mia crew tag-and-released the most Billfish for the tournament,
with 6 sailfish caught by, Francois Bezuidenhout (3), Herman Dickinson
(2) and Johan van Vuren (1). They won a fishfinder from
Garmin.
FRANCOIS van Staden has been awarded the AFB Hoedspruit MSC

Van Staden is a golfing ace
Golf Club at the Limpopo regional play-offs.
He also won the A-Division and qualified to
represent Limpopo in the final national playoffs
held at Sun City.

H’spruit anglers excel
THE 35th OET Bill and Gamefish Tournament,
hosted by Mpumalanga Deep Sea Angling
Association was held on November 4 and
members of the Hoedspruit Deep Sea Angling
Club excelled, winning first and second place
during the tournament.
Exciting changes were made to the tournaments
rules this year, in order to encourage
tag-and-release of billfish.
For the first time, tag-and-released fish became
eligible for the first prize. There was
much debate among the competitors about
these changes, but in the long term, tag-andrelease
is the more ecologically sound choice,
promoting both survival of the species, as well
as research.
Two classes of line were available for nomination
by each boat daily, either 10kg or 37kg
(which is the breaking point of the line). Two of
the boats from Hoedspruit, 'Bia Bella' and
'Mia', both worked on 10kg line each day.
"Mamba" and "Sea Queen" worked on 37kg
line.
Day one got underway at 05:00 on Monday
morning, with 75 of the 81 entered boats on
the water. At around 06:00, Johan van Vuren of
the Hoedspruit Deep Sea Angling Club (HD-
HK), on boat 'Mia', and his two crew for the
day, heard a reel began to scream. Herman
Dickinson grabbed the rod, and fought the fish
like a pro, bringing it to the boat within 10
minutes. Johan and Francois Bezuidenhout
tagged the fish, and took a photograph with a
colour card, as required by the regulations.
Shortly after this, 'Bia Bella' also managed
to tag-and-release a sailfish, caught by Wayne
Huddlestone, as well as land a nice sized
Yellow-fin tuna, caught by Sybrand van
Vuuren, to take along to the weigh-in.
Mid-morning,the 'Mia' team hooked a
7.6kg Wahoo, which Johan van Vuren caught
and loaded for the weigh-in.
At 11:00, 'Mia' turned around, and headed
back to Sodwana Bay from the far south waters
the team had been working. Van Vuren was at
the wheel, when Dickinson noticed a pack of
sailfish behind the lines, attacking the lures.
Four sailfish were hooked simultaneously, and
with only three anglers, chaos ensued.
However, the anglers experience came into
play, and all four fish were successfully
brought to the boat, tagged, photographed,
and released, in under three and a quarter
hours.
After the weigh-in, the 'Mia' team had
leaped into the lead, with 1820.2 points, 920
point s ahead on the boat in second place. 'Bia
Bella' stood in 12th place.
On the Tuesday, 'Mia' headed back to the
same waters. They lost a fish, which they think
was a marlin, after it had taken most of their
line. At lunchtime, there was another big one
hooked, which Francois successfully tagged
and released. Paul Borchards on boat 'Bia
Bella' also tag-and-released another sailfish
just after 06:00.
At the end of the day, 'Mia' was still first
place on 2180.12 points, with 'Bia Bella'
creeping up to 4th on 729.33 points.
The Wednesday morning had rough conditions
early on, but the sea levelled out later.
There were a few successes on surrounding
boats, but things were quiet for HDHK.
Mia hung onto 1st place, with 'Bia Bella'
dropping back to 7th.
On Thursday, the wind was howling, and
very few boats launched. 'Mia' took to the
waters, to defend their position, but eventually
the competition was called off for the day.
There was no change on the leader board.
Lines-up was at 13:00 on Friday, and still no
luck for 'Mia'. The crew weren't sure who'd
eventually released what, nor how much fish
was being brought to the weigh-in. To make
matters worse, there were rumours of a boat
still fighting a marlin on 10kg line, which could
easily give that boat enough points to take the
lead. The afternoon was a nerve-racking wait,
until the prize-giving and closing function on
Friday night.
To their great delight,the 'Mia' crew managed
to hold on to their first place, winning a
new 630 Cobra Cat. 'Bia Bella' amazingly
managed to climb up the rankings, and take
2nd place, winning a stunning exotic island
holiday, courtesy of Rani Resorts. What an
amazing achievement for two boats from an
angling club in the middle of the Lowveld.
'Mia' also won the prizes for the First T&R
for the Tournament (Herman Dickinson), Boat
with the Most T&R and Billfish and Angler with
the most T&R (Francois Bezuidenhout.)
