DIEPSLOOT AND EXTENSIONS<br />
Poverty, unemployment, lack of social and economic opportunities and limited public transport are<br />
serious problems that need to be addressed, over and above the provision of housing. This Sub Area<br />
encompasses the Consolidation Programme (Viable and efficient infrastructure provision within the<br />
marginalized formal townships of the city).<br />
DEVELOPMENT OBJECTIVE 1<br />
To ensure the socio-economic integration, consolidation and<br />
long-term sustainability of Diepsloot and Extensions, while recognising it as a marginalized<br />
community and an entity in its own right.<br />
Interventions Guidelines<br />
1.1 Investigate the possible options of the extension of<br />
Diepsloot from the current extent of its development<br />
i.e. east of William Nicol Drive or south of Diepsloot<br />
etc, with specific reference to:<br />
- provision of access to economic opportunities.<br />
- safety precautions to be taken into consideration<br />
should east of William Nicol be a viable option.<br />
- provision of a variety of housing typologies,<br />
densities and value zones.<br />
- planning for future immigration.<br />
• Development framework for the<br />
Northern Areas shall inform.<br />
• Conditions for any amendment of<br />
the UDB shall apply –principles of<br />
Inclusionary Housing shall apply,<br />
except for subsidised housing;<br />
developments within possible<br />
expansion area shall be subject to<br />

Design Guidelines referred to in<br />
