Chaplains’ contribution in sport in this
department has been notable. Throughout the
year, chaplains were seen featuring in almost
all sport codes. It is important to remind
readers that the current Chaplain Gen is also a
sport lover. He earned himself awards last year
among others as the best sport organiser in the
SANDF in the field of rugby.
Apart from the Chaplain Gen, chaplains in
general are active in sport. This represents all
chaplains regardless of gender. Our female
chaplains proved themselves to be on the
active line as well. Chaplains are seen featuring
in marathon, foot-ball, rugby, fishing, snooker,
swimming, cycling, etc. They are not only
featuring as players but also as administrators
in sport.
This year, like last year, was a busy one for
chaplains in sport. For instance, Cpln Tlhagale
made headlines as a 100 miler, Cpln Notshe
participated in comrade marathon and other
chaplains appeared in some areas of sport.
GOLF
On 1 October Cpln Nathi Ngcobo won the
Mamelodi Classic tournament that was played
over 36 holes with a score of 75 and 77 grass.
His connection with golf started many years
back when he was a caddy boy in Kwa-Zulu
Natal and has grown from strength to strength.
Cpln Ngcobo who is handicap 5 has won many
trophies of which the Mamelodi Classic is one
of his best trophies in this sport.
