TR85
TIOXIDE ® TR85 pigment is a rutile pigment
designed for decorative paints but more
specifically for low VOC decorative paints.
It offers rapid wetting and dispersion to
provide waterborne paints with very high
gloss, optimum opacity and excellent colour.
Because of its surface treatment
characteristics, TIOXIDE ® TR85 pigment is
ideally suited for tinted paints where colour
acceptance is an important property. With its
high level of durability, TIOXIDE ® TR85 pigment
is recommended for exterior, as well as interior
finishes where gloss retention is essential.
It can also be used in the more traditional
solvent based and high solids alkyd systems
where optimum optical, dispersion and
durability properties are of paramount
importance.
High-speed wetting and dispersion are critical
features necessary for efficient production of
paints and these elements have been built into
the design of TIOXIDE ® TR85 pigment.
Customer feedback has indicated that
TIOXIDE ® TR85 pigment wets and disperses
rapidly giving paint manufacturers an
advantage in terms of energy savings and
faster throughput.
Figure 1 shows the results of milling solution
adsorption by TIOXIDE ® TR85 pigment and a
number of competitor pigments. The faster
and greater the adsorption, the better the
wetting of the pigment.
TIOXIDE ® TR85 pigment gives formulators
the flexibility to reduce dispersant usage and
so cut raw material costs. Figure 2 (left)
compares the dispersant demand of
TIOXIDE ® TR85 pigment with several
competitor pigments.
Figure 3 demonstrates the excellent colour
performance of TIOXIDE ® TR85 pigment
compared with other competitor pigments.
Figure 4 shows the results of contrast ratio at
20m 2 /l spreading rate in a silk emulsion paint.
TIOXIDE ® TR85 pigment compares very well
with other established competitor grades.
TIOXIDE ® TR85 pigment offers not only high
optical properties, but also high durability for
external applications where it performs well
against a selection of well-established
competitor grades (see Figure 5).
TIOXIDE ® TR85 pigment has been shown to
give an outstanding performance in a variety of
tinted systems, giving consistent colour and
good colour acceptance.
Figure 6 shows the tinting strength
performance of TIOXIDE ® TR85 pigment where
the outstanding dispersion stability of
TIOXIDE ® TR85 pigment enables
manufacturers to produce tinted paints with
improved colour acceptance properties.
As for all fine powders, the handling of titanium dioxide pigments
can give rise to airborne dust. Good industrial hygiene practice
should be observed so as to avoid the generation and
subsequent inhalation of dust. For more information refer to our
material safety data sheet.
The subject is too wide to be adequately covered in a technical
data sheet and customers should seek confirmation of
compliance for each of the particular regulations they are
interested in by contacting Huntsman Pigments Group Technical
Service or the local sales forces.
The pigment should not be stored in outside areas exposed to the
weather. All direct contact with moisture should be avoided. By
storing the pigment correctly, its properties should not deteriorate
with time. However to ensure optimum performance, it is
recommended that the product is used on a first in, first out basis
from receipt of shipment.
