1. Description
Technical Leaflet
AMONN WASSERLASUR
Product type: AMONN WASSERLASUR is a water-based, weather-proof, protective wood stain for the
protection of wood against blue stain and mould.
Fields of application: For the translucent treatment of exterior wood not in permanent contact with the ground or
water, such as, for example, exterior panelling, garage doors, etc.
Protective action: Preventive action against blue stain and mould. AMONN WASSERLASUR regulates wood
humidity and provides good protection against UV rays.
Active agent: iodo-propynl butylcarbamate
Colours: 0-colourless, 01-oak, 02-larch, 03-chestnut, 04-walnut, 10-light walnut, 20-spruce, 34-dark walnut
Tin sizes: 25l metal tins. On request, 100 l. drums and 1.000l. containers
2. Technical Data
Density: 1,02 – 1,04 g/cm 3 . at +20 °C, according to the colour
Flash point: >100°C
Viscosity: approx. 48s/DIN 53 211, 2 mm at +20 °C
Solids: content: approx. 18% according to the colour
Drying time: Depending on the type of wood, the quantity applied and atmospheric conditions: after approx. 2-4
hours. High air humidity and/or low temperatures can lengthen drying times.
Odour: Mild, distinct odour. Odourless when dry.
Storage: In original sealed tins, 1 year in a cool place, protected from frost. Close partially used tins well. If the air
volume in the tin is excessive, transfer remaining product into smaller tins.
3. Application
Application: Stir AMONN WASSERLASUR well before use. Do not apply at temperatures below +10°C
(ambient, surface and product temperature).
Application methods: Brushing, impregnating machine.
Preparation of the surface: The wood to be treated must be dry and free from dust and grease. Do not apply to
wood with a humidity rate of over 18%. Strip old, badly adhering coats completely as these could prevent the
product from penetrating into the wood. A first coat of AMONN WASSERLASUR colourless is recommended for
wood with varying absorption rates. The extracts contained in certain kinds of tropical wood (e.g. iroko) can slow
down the drying process; in such cases, first clean the wood carefully with a nitro-thinner.
Advice for application: On large areas or highly absorbent wood, first dampen the wood with a wet sponge
before commencing application. To avoid visible brush strokes, treat the whole length of the wood following the
direction of the wood grain. It is necessary to increase the number of coats of AMONN WASSERLASUR on endgrain
wood in order to reduce, as far possible, any water absorption. Screws, nails, hinges and other metallic
parts, which may come into contact with the product, must be corrosion-resistant.
Recommended cycles:
New exterior wood, without dimensional
stability
- Renovation of exterior wood without
dimensional stability
2-3 x AMONN WASSERLASUR coloured, with intermediate sanding,
grain 280
Strip previous coats of badly adhering varnish; clean and sand the
surface in order to improve adhesion, then
1-2 x AMONN WASSERLASUR coloured
If the wood has been completely stripped of previous coats, the
recommendations for new wood should be followed.
AMONN WASSERLASUR colourless contains no pigments and thus offers no protection against UV rays. It
should therefore only be used on exterior wood as a finishing product in coloured cycles or for toning down darker
1

colours. The effect of each single colour depends on the type of wood. It is therefore advisable to always carry
out a test coat. It is furthermore recommended that the condition of the external paint is checked within 2 years of
application, especially on wood exposed the weather-side (south-west), renewing the same if necessary.
Yield: approx. 8-10 m²/l. per coat.
Thinning: AMONN WASSERLASUR is ready for use and should not be thinned
Re-coating: After approximately 4 hours, the surface can be sanded and re-coated.
Cleaning of tools: immediately after use with water.
4. Special advice
Wood preservatives contain active biocides for the protection of wood from animal and vegetable parasites. They
must be used according to the instructions and only if absolutely necessary. Misuse may cause damage to
health. When using products for the protection of wood, it is necessary to follow the regulations regarding hygiene
and safety in the work place and the protection of the environment (e.g. those regarding dangerous substances
and inflammable liquids) paying special attention to the designation on the tin and the safety data sheet (in
particular, danger symbols, danger description and indications, and safety advice). For detailed information on
this argument, please consult the “Information leaflet on the use of products for wood protection” published by the
German Chemical Industry Federation. Do not apply to wood which may come into direct contact with food,
animal feed or drinking water. During application, protect face, hands and eyes adequately, and ensure that there
is sufficient ventilation. Cover all switches and electric wires to avoid short-circuiting. Do not allow the product to
come into contact with plants. Not suitable for apiaries. Read the safety data sheet carefully. Keep out of the
reach of children and do not pour into the sewage system or into surface water.
Water hazard class 2 (German regulation) (Self-assessment): hazardous for water
Danger class according to VbF: not applicable
ADR/RID: not applicable
