GETTING TO THE AIRPORT
ATC runs a special service called Aerobus between the airport and the city center, making
stops at the train station, Ospedale Maggiore, Via dell’Indipendenza and Via Ugo Bassi.
See ATC information in this chapter under ‘Bus.’
TAXIS AND CAR SERVICES
Taxis, pronounced tassi, are not allowed to pick up passengers on the street but must
instead line up at taxi stands or respond to radio dispatches. They usually respond quickly
and get to their destination without much delay. Legal taxis must be equipped with a fee
meter.
There are also a number of car and driver services. You may be surprised that a dark
sedan and well-dressed driver do not necessarily cost more than a regular taxi.
COMMUNICATION & MEDIA
HOME TELEPHONE
Now that the state telephone company Telecom Italia no longer enjoys a monopoly, the
choice of telephone, telefonino and internet services can be overwhelming. Although
Telecom Italia still has a stronghold over the telefono fisso (landline), you now have an
extensive choice of providers.
