INTRODUCTION
A composite of Bone Clones ® images provides a visual representation of
twenty years of product development emanating from our basic concept
of reproducing skulls and skeletons that are “virtually indistinguishable
from the original.”
Bones are very informative – they store and transmit information about
the skeletal composition of the human individual, including stature,
age, ancestry, sex, trauma experienced, and pathology acquired.
Bone Clones ® replicas capture in unsurpassed detail the subtle neural
passages, the juncture of bone to bone, the similarities and differences
from one individual to another and from one species to another.
Bones help inform us of the structural diversity in the animal world,
allowing us to note and compare adaptations to diet, behavior and
physical terrain. Significantly, bones that were encapsulated in the
earth’s strata millions of years ago become evidence in an ongoing and
complex mystery of origination. Recreating those discoveries helps
further understanding of the progression from then to now.
The products contained in this supplement are recently developed casts,
or in a few instances, groups of products addressing certain themes.
We continue to expand our Human Anatomy selection with examples
of documented European male and female skeletons from the Maxwell
Museum. At the same time we are introducing a series of skulls and
postcranial bones that show the effects of disease on bone. These are
part of the extensive collection at the Museum of Man in San Diego.
We hope you find these specialized osteological reproductions as
interesting and informative as we do.
