Henry Purcell [pronounced Purse-l] (1659-1695), Dido and Aeneas, S. 626 (ante 1688). Here Purcell demonstrates his usual uncommon ease and unfailing precision at setting the English language. Purcell sets Nahum Tate’s libretto as a beautiful opera in three scenes and a prologue of great dramatic power with brilliant text painting.
