evaluation and January 31, 1998, for admission to the<br />
University <strong>of</strong> the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB) Graduate<br />
School to attend the 13th Course <strong>of</strong> the Regional Training<br />
Programme on Food and <strong>Nutrition</strong> Planning, which leads to a<br />
Master <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Studies degree in Food and <strong>Nutrition</strong><br />
Planning. The course will commence in April 1998 and be<br />

The A.S.P.E.N. Research Workshop will be held Sunday, January 1 8, 1 998, one day before the <strong>of</strong>ficial start <strong>of</strong>the 22nd<br />
<strong>Clinical</strong> Congress, in Orlando, FL. The day-long event will be chaired by Steven H. Zeisel, MD, and co-chaired by<br />

Faculty Position in Human <strong>Nutrition</strong> and Metabolism<br />
The Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nutrition</strong>al Sciences, University <strong>of</strong> California at Berkeley is seeking an<br />
Assistant, Associate or Full Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nutrition</strong> for a nine-month tenure track position<br />
beginning July 1 , 1998. The appointee is expected to have established, or shown strong<br />
potential for developing, an independent research program in the general area <strong>of</strong><br />
metabolic regulation, nutritional biochemistry or nutritional disorders. Research need not<br />
involve humans directly, but should be ultimately applicable to human nutrition and<br />
metabolism. Areas including genetics, endocrinology, metabolism, physiology and<br />
energetics are appropriate. An interest in the biologic basis or consequences <strong>of</strong> obesity is<br />
an advantage but is not required. The appointee may work with graduate students<br />
seeking advanced degrees in <strong>Nutrition</strong>, Toxicology, Comparative Biochemistry,<br />
Endocrinology or related fields. The applicant must hold a Ph.D. or an M.D. or equivalent<br />
degree. Teaching assignments will be in the area <strong>of</strong> human nutrition and health.<br />

An NIH-funded predoctoral position is available for<br />

in basic and clinical nutrition and chronic disease prevention;<br />
exposure to patients and to disease prevention projects;<br />
