Precautions for contacts of adults patients with possible or proven
Influenza H1N1
Close contacts are defined as household members or people whom you have nursed,
embraced, kissed or shared cutlery with in the period of one day precending the onset of
symptoms until seven days after the onset of symptoms.
Adhere to the following precautions:
• By observing hygiene precautions you can avoid transmitting the infection to other
people.
Hygiene precautions against influenza:
1. Wash your hands often with water and soap.
2. Avoid close contact to sick people or their respiratory secretions.
3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mounth.
4. Do not shake hands and keep a distance of at least one meter to other people.
5. Refrain from embracing or kissing. Do net share cutlery.
Monitor your health in the 7 days following contact with a person suffering from possible or
proven influenza. Take your temperature at least daily or when you feel feverish. Look for
signs of influenza such as:
• Acute fever above 38°
• Malaise or fatigue
• Muscle pain or diffuse body aches
• Running of stuffed nose, cough or sore throat
