On behalf of the Board of Directors of tri-
Pride, I would like to welcome everybody
to tri-Pride 2013!
This year promises to be our biggest and
best festival to date, with more than three
blocks of downtown Kitchener closed off
for us and three stages of entertainment.
The board of directors have worked harder
than ever this year to bring you a Pride
celebration that I am sure you will be
proud to call you own.
Our theme this year is “One Heart One
Community.” I feel this theme is more
important than ever, especially as the
LGBTQ community becomes more integrated
with mainstream society. It is important
for us to gather as a community to
celebrate our struggles and our triumphs,
as well as our rich heritage. The LGBT community
in the Waterloo Region has a lot to
be proud of, and Pride day is one day of
the year we can all gather to show it!
As we come together,
I ask that everyone
take the time to hang
out with good friends,
re-unite with old ones,
DANIEL WIEBE
and perhaps make a
few new ones. I also ask that while we
get together to celebrate all that this
community has accomplished, we also
take the time to remember those who
fought so hard for the rights we have
today. That is what Pride is all about.
I would like to thank our many Volunteers,
Sponsors, Supports, Friends, and
Allies for all coming together to make
tri-Pride happen. It is this community
that supports us and allows us to run
this great festival each year.

That’s been evident since GMMF first hit stages in
Toronto in 1996 with their huge sound, unrelentingly
positive vibe and high-energy stage show, which
proved from day one they can play to anyone,
anywhere and pack the dance floor without fail.
Over time, the band has also shared the stage with
artists as diverse as Guru, Afrika Bambatta,
Parliament Funkadelic, Bedouin Soundclash and
INXS, toured relentlessly throughout Canada and the U.S and, most recently, won the

are a five piece band from Ottawa,
Ontario, Canada. They know what it’s like

DRAKE JENSEN

Born and raised in Cape Breton, Nova
Scotia, Canada, Drake Jensen grew up
surrounded by music, and discovered at
a very young age his love and natural
talent. He fulfilled his desire to perform
in the venues of his home turf, making a
name for himself as not only a talented
vocalist and musician, but as a
performer as well. After a lengthy
hiatus, believing that his music career
was long since over, Drake discovered
he had yet to fulfill one of his dreams:
to record an album in Nashville.
With his 2011 debut album, “On My Way
To Finding You”, Drake Jensen has
started to make his mark on Country
Music worldwide.
Some of Drake’s achievements to date
include : charting at #16 on the European Country Music Association’s Top 100,
achieving Top 20 in France with his single “All You Need”, his ground-breaking video
“On My Way To Finding You” awarded by Montréal’s Fondation Émergence, and
voted one of 2012’s 50 most influential coming out stories by Towleroad.
Jensen is back with even more determination and a brand new album, OUTlaw. With
a fresh new look and a powerful new sound, Drake brings even more of himself to this

Shawnee SheKing singer/songwriter and
described as a powerhouse performer
and vocalist. After being discovered for
her powerful warm and dynamic voice
Shawnee SheKing was invited on one of
POPs biggest arena tours with with
Glass Tiger and Roxette as a supporting
vocalist guest singer. Earlier this year
she was a featured artist on Disney
reality show and has been named
Canada's breaking out artist while her
single Mirror Me hits number one on
the National Aboriginal Countdown
charts. Aside from a big touring

SARAH SMITH

London, Ont. native, Sarah earned national
recognition with her rock band The Joys, who
achieved certified GOLD status in Canada. With the release
of her debut solo album, "Stronger Now",
(Produced by Grammy and Juno Award Winning Producer,
Kevin Doyle), Sarah Smith is proving that she is, in
fact, “stronger than ever”.
By stepping outside the boundaries of The Joys to bring
audiences her own voice, Sarah Smith cultivated a sound
built on her experiences. She enjoyed immediate success
as a solo artist, claiming awards for:
• Best Singer/Songwriter in 2009 and 2010 at the LMAs
• Best Singer/Songwriter at the 2013 JRMAs
• Also in 2012, Sarah won a radio contest, which then
pushed her into Canadian radio fame, and allowed her to
gain a #1 spot on Free FM 98.1.
• "Stronger Now" was picked as "#1 Album of 2012 by
The London Free Press.
Sarah has shared stages with The Trews, Bif Naked, Ashley
MacIsaac, Lucas Silveira, The Sheepdogs, The Tea Party
and many more in her short time as a solo artist. Just
recently, Sarah was "discovered" by a German Producer,
Pat Anthony (Usher, Black Eyed Peas) who flew her to
Germany to write and record songs for her upcoming
album (release date TBA).
Often associated with the likes of Sheryl Crow and Melissa Etheridge, Sarah's
powerhouse vocals shine through in hits like "Shine Bright" which deliver the usual
passion, raw emotion and texture fans have come to expect. Stronger Now is a
testament to the paradoxically strong, yet tender voice that has made Sarah famous.
Sarah plays 200 live shows a year, making her one of "Canada's hardestworking
musicians".

Through a careful and meticulous selection process,
governed by experts from near and abroad and a few

successfully compete through a series of skill-testing

Each year, the tri-Pride Community Awards recognize the accomplishments of Lesbian/Gay/
Bisexual/Transgendered/Queer (LGBTQ) individuals and supportive groups and organizations
within Waterloo Region. Making visible the work of these individuals and groups is truly
important as it helps to foster community engagement and reward the services that people
contribute to make our community a better place in which to live for everyone!

While the name Bradley Hamacher may not
sound recognizable to many individuals in the
LGBTQ community, the name Miss Drew is

has served as a fearless leader in Waterloo
Region’s LGBTQ community as the female
illusionist/drag queen, Miss Drew. Through
the years, Bradley has been instrumental in
fundraising thousands of dollars for countless
organizations, including ACCKWA, Canadian
Cancer Society, and tri-Pride. While hosting
his ever-popular drag show at Club Renaissance
every Thursday night, “All That Glitters
Is Gold”, Bradley does it with true showmanship,
passion, a witty sense of humour and a
big heart for giving back to his community
whenever possible.

THE JANE BOND
Located at 5 Princess St. W., The Jane Bond
has provided a warm atmosphere for the
LGBTQ community to meet, dine and socialize
for several years. Always a big supporter
of ACCKWA’s Taste For Life fundraisers, The
Jane Bond remains dedicated in providing a
positive and welcoming establishment where
the rainbow community can feel safe and
included.
OUTSTANDING YOUTH
JESSICA DEL ROSSO
Becoming homeless and entering the foster care
system at 15, Jessica has overcome unbelievable
challenges (that are sadly too common for so many
of our rainbow youth), to excel as a courageous
leader in Waterloo Region. Recently awarded The
Record’s Top 40 Under 40 Award, Jessica dedicates
her time working with numerous organizations,
including Family and Children’s Services as their
first Peer Mentor Team Leader. Jessica often
speaks publicly to youth with the important message
that they are just as capable as others to
achieve their dreams and goals. With a long-term
goal to oneday work with LGBTQ youth in Toronto,
Jessica stands as a strong role model for other
rainbow youth in our community.
ROBIN’S NEST COMMUNITY BUILDER
LANGS
Serving Waterloo Region and beyond, Langs is a
dynamic, respected community development organization
providing comprehensive health and
social support services. With their expertise, they
have quickly grown to be considered a central
resource for rainbow health in Waterloo Region.
They deploy many local health and wellness programs,
and have become the central deployment
resource for trans health in Waterloo Region, taking
trailblazing efforts to train their medical and
social work staff in areas such as general LGBTQ,
trans, and LGBTQ seniors care. There is no end in
sight for Langs as they continue to grow and develop
programs with dedication to supporting our
local rainbow community.
