The BBC is committed to making programmes that reflect the
diversity of modern Britain and that are relevant to all our
viewers. There are over 11 million disabled people in the UK.
8 out of 10 disabled people became disabled during their
working life or later. Disability can happen to anyone.
We actively seek and nurture disabled talent for all BBC
programmes across all genres. This directory has been created
to help programme makers find and cast a broad range of
professional disabled actors and performers.
This directory has been compiled in conjunction with Spotlight.
Please see Spotlight’s website for further details, photographs and showreels
of many of the actors in this directory.
SPARE TYRE THEATRE COMPANY 2002 - PRESENT
Hair Length: Long
Disability: Wheelchair-bound
Eye Colour: Brown
I have been an active member within a Community Theatre Organisation called Spare Tyre
Theatre Company for 7 years in which I have performed in many shows that we tour to schools,
colleges and arts venues. We have been involved in turning these performances into videos. In
2008 we performed at the Millennium Festival in Cardiff.
The group as a whole was also involved in a project, called “English without Frontiers”, that
was conducted in order to teach people with learning difficulties in Holland how to speak
English. Information about this is on the “English without Frontiers” website.
WORKSHOP LEADER 2008 and 2009
I have run workshops at Charlton School in Greenwich over a two week period where I assisted
the students from the school to produce a performance that was shown to friends and family.
