Regulation 14<br />

<strong>Register</strong> of drivers of vehicles used to carry dangerous goods<br />

(3) A person may apply to the chief inspector in the approved manner to<br />

be registered as a driver of a vehicle used to carry dangerous goods<br />

of a particular class or kind.<br />

(4) On receipt of an application made by a person as referred to in<br />

subregulation (3), the chief inspector shall register the person as a<br />

driver of a vehicle used to carry dangerous goods of the class or<br />

kind specified in the application if the chief inspector is satisfied<br />

that—<br />

(a) the person is of or above the age of 25 years; and<br />

(b) the person has adequate knowledge of—<br />

(i) the nature and properties of dangerous goods of that class<br />

or kind; and<br />

(ii) the actions to be taken to ensure the prevention of<br />

accidents, injury or damage to persons or property and to<br />

assist in any emergency that may arise in the course of<br />

the carriage of dangerous goods of that class or kind; and<br />

(c) the person is experienced in the operation of vehicles used to<br />

carry liquid or gaseous dangerous goods.<br />

(5) The chief inspector—<br />

(a) may conduct a course of study in relation to dangerous goods<br />

of a particular class or kind which contains such practical and<br />

theoretical instruction as the chief inspector thinks necessary to<br />

ensure that a person who completes the course, to the<br />

satisfaction of the chief inspector, would have adequate<br />

knowledge of the matters referred to in subregulation (4) (b) in<br />

relation to dangerous goods of that class or kind; and<br />

(b) shall, upon application to the chief inspector, approve a course<br />

of study in relation to dangerous goods of a particular class or<br />

kind which is conducted by a person if the chief inspector is<br />

satisfied that it contains such practical and theoretical<br />

instruction as may be necessary to ensure that a person who<br />
