IRRDB
he Inter national Rubber Research and
Development Board (IRRDB) is an R&D platform
Twhich brings together various agencies,
organizations and research institutes associated with
natural rubber (NR) in the NR producing countries of the
world. IRRDB covers all aspects of NR from cultivation of
Hevea to development of products, trade, trade related
issues and environmental concerns.
While its origins go back to 1934, IRRDB in its present form
began functioning in 1960 with London as its headquarters
which was subsequently shifted to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
in 2001. Today, IRRDB has 19 countries on its membership
roll and another half a dozen organizations are its associate
members. The member countries cover more than 95% of
the world NR production. Along with the Annual Meetings
of the IRRDB, an International Rubber Conference (IRC) is
also conducted every year and this has become a major event
in the international NR calendar. Rubber Board India is

hosting the 10 in the series of the IRRDB-IRC and the
Annual Meetings of the IRRDB from 29 October to 02
November, 2012 at Kovalam, Trivandrum (also known as
Thiruvananthapuram), Kerala state, India.
IRC 2012
IRC 2012 will be held from 29-31 October, 2012 at Hotel
Samudra, Kovalam. The conference will have two days of
intensive deliberations focusing on Challenges to Rubber
Industry on the first day and Farm Mechanization on the
second day. A field visit will be arranged on the third day to
some of the rubber holdings and Rubber Producers'
Societies in the Kanyakumari district of adjacent Tamil
Nadu state.
Venue
Hotel Samudra, the venue of IRC 2012 belongs to the
Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC), a
government of Kerala undertaking. This hotel is located
inside a coconut grove on the scenic Kovalam beach on the
Arabian Sea. Kovalam is a famous beach resort on the
international tourist map. Kovalam is about 10 - 12 kms
outside of Trivandrum, the capital city of the evergreen
Southern state of Kerala where almost 85% of the Indian
NR is grown.
Airport
The Trivandrum international airport is about 10 kms outside
Trivandrum city and about 13 kms from Kovalam. Taxi ride
between the airport and Kovalam will cost about Rs. 550 - 650.
Weather
Weather in Kovalam during October/November is warm and
pleasant with possibilities for occasional showers from the
Northeast monsoon. No woollen cloths are recommended.

Visa
Please note that those who do not possess an Indian passport
require a valid visa to travel to India. You may process your
application for obtaining a visa well in advance. Should you
require a call letter from our end to go with your visa
application, please let us know and we shall be happy to
provide the same. Along with our letter, the official
conference notification from the IRRDB also may be
submitted with your visa application. Consult your travel
agent for assistance.
Passport information
In addition to visa for foreigners to travel to India, Rubber
Board India is required to take prior permission from
Government of India to host foreign delegates at an official
function like the IRC or the IRRDB Annual Meetings. For
Rubber Board India to obtain this permission, we require the
passport information of the foreign delegates in the format
given in the registration form attached to this brochure.
Please note that this is a permission that Rubber Board India
is required to take from Government of India and this is not a
substitute for visa which all foreigners must take before
travelling to India. If you are planning to attend the IRC or
the IRRDB Annual Meetings, we request you to provide the
above information at the earliest. There is no objection if you
choose not to attend any of these meetings even after sending
IRRDB Annual Meetings 2012

The IRRDB Annual Meetings (restricted to members and
associate members only) will be held from 01- 02 November,
2012 in the Conference Hall of Hotel Vivanta by Taj, Kovalam
which is very close to Hotel Samudra, the venue of IRC 2012.
Meeting of the Directors, CEOs and Liaison Officers of
IRRDB will be held on 01 November, 2012 and Meeting of
the Board will be held on 02 November, 2012. Please note that
Hotel Vivanta by Taj is only walking distance from both Hotel
Samudra and Hotel Udaya Samudra.

invited. The second day of IRC 2012 is dedicated for
presentations on NR cultivation and production with special

Acceptance of the paper for oral/poster presentation will be
communicated to the authors by 10 September, 2012. Please
indicate clearly the contact details, including the email id and
fax number of the presenting author at the top of the
manuscript.

Registration
All delegates are requested to register for IRC and the IRRDB
Annual Meetings by filling up the registration form attached with
this brochure before 30 September, 2012. Non-members of
IRRDB will be charged a registration fee for IRC 2012 as follows:
Indian delegates Rs. 5000 per person
Foreign delegates US$ 200 per person
