Re-Imagining the Education Imagination: A Gallery Walk of Aesthetic Research Methodologies
EDUC 8110 graduate students exhibit a collection of aesthetic analyses of Elliot Eisner’s (1979) classic qualitative research text, “The
Educational Imagination,” which took place during the spring, summer and fall (2012) semesters in EDUC 8110: Advanced Study:
Ideas, Issues, and Practices in Education. In this project, GSEHD graduate students analyzed “The Educational Imagination” as a
site for an arts-based examination of knowing, identity, and textual authority. Participants created visual, theatrical, and video
analyses of the text which functioned both as artworks in themselves - and as experimental places of learning, demonstrating
alternative practices by which the educational research process might be re-imagined.
