Plants in turf-like colonies, purple red with a slight iridescence; 5-7 mm high and 1.5-1.8
mm broad, plumosely branched in 2 indistinct ranks. Main axis 41-58 km in diameter,
uncorticated with determinate lateral branchlets 17-24 ym in diameter terminating in
attenuate cells. Tetrasporangia 55-60 ym in diameter, surrounded by short-celled involucral
filaments.

Fiji, Micronesia, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands, northern Australia, Indonesia,
Philippines, Vietnam, China, Jamaica, tropical Americas.

Plants subrepent, about 5-6 cm long, laxly and sparingly branched. Main axis ecorticate,
composed of 4 pericentral cells each about 100 pm long, 70-80 pm in diameter. Branches
mostly determinate with 3-4 times forked, mainly monosiphonous filaments 10-13 ym in
diameter with terminal segments 4-15 cells long, bluntly tipped. Plants sterile.
