At about the time the artist created<br />
this drawing, the father of the sitter,<br />
Felix E. Schelling, a professor of<br />
Shakespearean Literature at the<br />
University of Pennsylvania,<br />
purchased the house across the<br />
road from the Garbers at Cuttalossa.<br />
The dwelling, formerly owned by<br />
Mary Maxwell, was owned by the<br />
Schellings until 1945 when it was<br />
purchased by the Salter family. Felix<br />
Derbyshire Schelling, the subject of<br />
this drawing, was, among other<br />
things, an artist, and would later<br />
teach art at the Penn Charter School<br />
for Boys in Philadelphia. For another<br />
