John J. Duffy Remembered by <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong><br />
T<strong>The</strong> <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> is saddened to report the June 29 death <strong>of</strong> John J. Duffy, former <strong>National</strong><br />
<strong>Board</strong> member <strong>and</strong> field representative. He was 83 years old.<br />
Mr. Duffy was chief inspector <strong>of</strong> Wisconsin for almost 11 years, from 1975 to 1986. From 1981 to<br />
1986 he was a member <strong>of</strong> the <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong>’s <strong>Board</strong> <strong>of</strong> Trustees. In 1986, Mr. Duffy joined the<br />
<strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> field staff. After retirement he worked as a consultant for several insurance companies.<br />
Mr. Duffy served for 20 years as an engineer for the Merchant Marine Service, <strong>and</strong> during World<br />
War II was active in the European, Asian, <strong>and</strong> North Atlantic theaters.<br />
“John Duffy played a vital role with the <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong>. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to his<br />
family,” notes <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> Executive Director Donald E. Tanner. “Mr. Duffy’s impact on the boiler<br />
<strong>and</strong> pressure vessel industry will be felt for years.”<br />
Mr. Duffy is survived by his wife Ruth, daughter Nancy Meyer, two sons William Duffy <strong>and</strong> James<br />
Duffy, <strong>and</strong> eight gr<strong>and</strong>children. ❖<br />
