Sister Kathleen Klarich, Principal, reports year-end accomplishments<br />

<strong>The</strong> Middle States Commission on Secondary <strong>School</strong>s visited<br />

<strong>Little</strong> <strong>Flower</strong> from March 9 through 12. This state<br />

required process is necessary every seven years to renew<br />

accreditation and educational certification.<br />

We are pleased to report that the oral report recommended<br />

reaccreditation. It was very positive and highlighted our spirited<br />

community and family atmosphere. <strong>The</strong> written report<br />

which will follow will contain recommendations and commendations.<br />

<strong>The</strong> team gave approval to the newly identified Student<br />

Performance Objectives and Action Plans. <strong>The</strong>y include:<br />

1. improved confidence and competence in numeracy<br />

2. develop ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate<br />

results of their use of in-depth research skills in both<br />

written and oral presentations<br />

3. develop life-skills in finance, banking, credit cards, budgets,<br />

taxes, study and test-taking skills, time management,<br />

household management, car maintenance, cooking, conflict<br />

resolution, social etiquette, job interviews.<br />

Academics: Our graduating class of 155 has received scholarships<br />

worth over $7,134,452. Over 37% of our graduates<br />

received scholarship money; 90% of our graduates are pursuing<br />

post-secondary education.<br />

VIP (Very Impressive Performers Program), a new program<br />

in Philadelphia initiated by Mayor Nutter, offers various<br />

challenges quarterly to all students in Philadelphia schools,<br />

both public and private. Recognition and prizes are awarded.<br />

students who achieved “Excellence.” <strong>Little</strong> <strong>Flower</strong> is<br />

proud of our 13 students who achieved that level. That is 2.5%<br />

of the entire group of achievers throughout the city came from<br />

LF! <strong>The</strong> students won a ticket to a Phillies game for the<br />

Mayor’s Box. Congratulations to all of our Excellent<br />

Students!<br />

Third Quarter: Most Improved in attendance, discipline<br />

and grades: <strong>The</strong>se students will be nominated by their teachers.<br />

Honors Night was held on May 6, and 150 students who<br />

received 1st Honors and 181 students who received 2nd<br />

Honors through the first three quarters of the school year were<br />

invited along with their parents.<br />

<strong>Little</strong> <strong>Flower</strong> is proud to announce that it will be offering<br />

two sections of Chinese as a language offering starting in the<br />

fall.<br />

Athletics: LF has won the <strong>Catholic</strong> League Bowling<br />

Championship for the third year straight. We also have students<br />

who have achieved All <strong>Catholic</strong> status in soccer, field<br />

hockey, bowling, swimming, basketball and volleyball. Our<br />

spring sports: lacrosse, softball, and track and field wrapped<br />

up a good year, and our track and field team participated in the<br />

Penn Relays. Congratulations to all our athletes!<br />

Arts: Our talented young women have performed in our<br />

Spring Concert and our artists have showcased their projects<br />

at our annual Art Exhibit. We are very proud of our creative<br />

and artistic students.<br />
