Clare Wardman lives <strong>in</strong> York, work<strong>in</strong>g as a TESOL <strong>and</strong> l<strong>in</strong>guistics lecturer at York<br />

St John University, tutor<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Multil<strong>in</strong>gualism, World <strong>English</strong>es <strong>and</strong> Language<br />

Teach<strong>in</strong>g Methodology. Her research (at the University of York) is concerned with<br />

issues related to children with <strong>English</strong> as an additional <strong>language</strong> <strong>in</strong> UK primary<br />

schools, particularly focus<strong>in</strong>g on classroom <strong>in</strong>teractions, the provision of support<br />

<strong>for</strong> children <strong>and</strong> teach<strong>in</strong>g staff, <strong>and</strong> attitudes towards home <strong>language</strong>s. Prior to <strong>and</strong><br />

alongside her current roles, she has worked <strong>for</strong> a number of years as an <strong>English</strong> as<br />

a Foreign Language <strong>and</strong> <strong>English</strong> <strong>for</strong> Academic Purposes tutor <strong>for</strong> various <strong>language</strong><br />

teach<strong>in</strong>g establishments, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the universities of York, Ed<strong>in</strong>burgh <strong>and</strong> Durham.<br />

Judith Bell came to primary school teach<strong>in</strong>g after 24 years <strong>in</strong> social work hence<br />

she has a great <strong>in</strong>terest <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>clusion of all k<strong>in</strong>ds. She has always been <strong>in</strong>terested <strong>in</strong><br />

work<strong>in</strong>g with people from different cultures <strong>and</strong> studied <strong>for</strong> her PGCE at Brad<strong>for</strong>d<br />

College where EAL teach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> multiculturalism were threaded throughout the<br />

lectures. She is a primary class teacher <strong>and</strong> EAL Co-ord<strong>in</strong>ator <strong>and</strong> has completed<br />

MA modules <strong>in</strong> Meet<strong>in</strong>g The Needs of EAL Learners run by the Local Authority EMA<br />

Team <strong>in</strong> conjunction with Edge Hill University.<br />

Emma Sharp lives <strong>in</strong> Manchester <strong>and</strong> has taught <strong>in</strong> Bury <strong>for</strong> 13 years at a Church of<br />

Engl<strong>and</strong> primary school with a predom<strong>in</strong>antly Muslim <strong>in</strong>take. Prior to this she worked<br />

<strong>in</strong> a busy, <strong>in</strong>ner city school <strong>in</strong> which over 54 <strong>language</strong>s were spoken. Her background<br />

is firmly rooted <strong>in</strong> classroom research <strong>for</strong> children with <strong>English</strong> as an additional<br />

<strong>language</strong> <strong>and</strong> she is currently complet<strong>in</strong>g her MA <strong>in</strong> Education.<br />
