16. Law and arbitration 

The contract shall be subject to Italian law. 

The seat of arbitration for any controversy arising 

out of, or in connection with, this contract is Imperia. 

13. Information on passport, visa and 

health provisions 

Gadis Tourist Service shall, within its possibilities, 

inform the Client about any material variation in the 

general instruction contained in the description of 

the trip. 

In no event Gadis Tourist Service shall be responsible 

with respect to the concession and delivery of any 

necessary visas from foreign authorities. 

The Client is the sole responsible of the compliance 

with all the instructions necessary to carry out the 

trip. Any inconvenience which arises from the non 

compliance with the instructions above shall be on 

the risk of the Client. 

Gadis Tourist Service shall provide the Client with the 

information referred to passports, visas and sanitary 

standards in accordance with Italian laws, with no 

liability for any change made by the competent authorities 

(of which he is not aware notwithstanding 

its common diligence). 

Should the Client has not complied with rules applicable 

to the entrance of the traveller or should a 

visa has not been obtained due to negligence of the 

Client and as a consequence thereof the traveller can 

not proceed on the trip, Gadis Tourist Service can request 

payments of any expenses incurred

The superior 3* Hotel Valentino is set in a quiet area 

surrounded by hills. The elegantly furbished facility 

renovated in 2006 boasts a conference room, a large

14. Miscellaneous 

A . Unless otherwise stated the number of free passengers 

granted to separate groups for a minimum 

number of payers of 25 passengers is calculated on 

placement in double rooms. 

B. The total number of single rooms is subject to the 

number of double and triple rooms, whereby a 

single room (including single room for the driver) 

is available every 4 double or triple room. 

C. The prices stated in the contract are based on 

groups with a minimum of 25 participants (including 

the driver). For smaller groups a price increase 

will be set on a case by case basis. The Client 

may withdraw from the contract no later than 2 

weeks prior to the departure date if the price increase 

exceeds 20% of the increase stated in the 

contract. 

D. The names and addresses of the service suppliers 

will be communicated upon receiving the defi nite 

rooming-list, no later then 10 days before the beginning 

of the services, unless otherwise agreed 

between Gadis Tourist Service and the Client. 

E. E Any objection against Gadis Tourist Service invoices 

(price, number of passengers, etc.) shall 

be taken into account only if they are communicated 

to Gadis Tourist Service within 35 days from 

invoice date. After this date the invoice shall be 

collected for the full amount.

After many years disrepair Venaria Reale, one of the 

main residences of Savoy’ royal family in Piedmont, 

was massively renovated and brought back to it‘s 

original splendour. Today the former palace built 

by Vittorio Amedeo II is a UNESCO World Heritage 

Site. The residence includes the Baroque Royal 

palace with its gardens - a fi ne example of 17th and 

18th century architecture. Do not miss a visit to La 

Mandria nature park that is home to a variety of

10. Liability of Gadis Tourist Service 

Gadis Tourist Service shall not be liable to the Client 

for any damage to the Client or his belongings that 

are caused by force majeure, unforeseen events or 

third parties. Anyway, Gadis Tourist Service‘s liability 

is limited in accordance with international conventions, 

in particular: 

• the Warsaw Convention, 12 October 1929; 

• the Berne Convention, 25 February 1961; 

• the Brussels Convention, 20 April 1970. 

Gadis Tourist Service shall not be liable for any damages 

caused by the Client‘s or services rendered by 

Third Party Suppliers and not included in the travel 

arrangements. 

5. Booking transfer 

The Client may choose to change their booking by 

transferring it to another subject, provided that the 

transferee meets all conditions of the original booking. 

Anyway, the request for transfer is to be sent to 

Gadis Tourist Service by registered mail, or by telegram 

or fax if it is urgent, no later than 4 days prior 

to the departure together with the full details of the 

transferee (surname and family name, sex, birth 

date, nationality). 

A fee equal to € 29,00 will be charged by Gadis 

Tourist Service to cover the costs incurred. 

1. Contract 

The contract consists of the general terms and conditions, 

the tour confi rmation and the travel arrangements 

set out in the brochure or fl yers. 

Any changes requested by the Client, any alterations 

in the travel arrangements featured in the 

brochure and any special request must be made in 

writing and outlined in the contract. 

If travel arrangements as set out in the tour confi rmation 

are found to be diff erent from the Client‘s request, 

the tour confi rmation itself represents a new 

proposal from Gadis Tourist Service, to which Gadis 

Tourist Service shall be bound for 14 days, and which 

the Client may accept by returning the same within 

the above term of 14 days.

11. Complaints 

Any disappointment or complaint which the Client 

may have concerning their travel arrangements 

must be reported immediately to Gadis Tourist Service 

so that Gadis Tourist Service or its representative 

may deal with it. 

Any complaint in respect of Gadis Tourist Service 

should be made in writing and sent by registered 

mail or fax within 14 days of the end of the tour set 

out in the contract. Claims reported after the 14days 

period will be considered only if the Client was 

prevented from meeting the deadline for reasons 

beyond its control. Anyway any complaint becomes 

ineff ective 6 months after the end of the tour as stated 

in the contract. 

6. Cancellation 

6.1. If the Client chooses to cancel their participation, 

cancellation charges are outlined as follows: 

• up to 28 days prior to the departure date 5 % of 

the price paid 







• within less than 7 days prior to the departure date 

100 % of the price paid 

6.2. Notwithstanding with the terms and conditions 

stated in other documents, the terms and conditions 

of this contract will remain in full force and 

eff ect. 

6.3. The parties can withdraw from the contract 

without any refund in the event of unforeseen 

circumstances (events of force majeure, war, riots, 

epidemics, acts of restrictions of governments, 

acts of God, breakdowns, destruction of lodgings, 

strikes beyond the parties‘ control and similar 

events. 

2. Terms of Payment 

80% of the price stated in the tour confi rmation form 

is payable 4 weeks prior to the departure date. The 

remaining 20% is due 2 weeks prior to the departure 

date upon delivery of travel documents. 

If the Client makes the booking 2 weeks prior to the 

departure date the full balance of the price must be 

paid immediately after delivery of travel documents. 

Any amendment to article 2 must be agreed upon 

in writing by the parties.

12. Refund 

The client agrees and guarantees that: 

• they are a travel agent / tour operator duly authorised 

to conduct their business in compliance with 

any rules and regulations, orders and decrees by 

the relevant authorities; 

• They conduct their business in compliance with 

any rules and regulations, orders and decrees by 

the relevant authorities; 

• It has stipulated insurance policies in compliance 

with any rules and regulations, orders and decrees 

by the relevant authorities and anyway consistently 

with its business activity. 

The Client shall indemnify Gadis Tourist Service 

against any statement of claim brought by tour 

participants, which shall be compensated directly 

by the Client(without prejudice to any claims of 

the Client against Gadis Tourist Service should a liability 

of Gadis Tourist Service occur in accordance 

with the terms of the contract). 

Furthermore, the Client shall indemnify Gadis Tourist 

Service against any claims from third party 

suppliers in respect of any cancellations made in 

relation to services booked. 

3. Price alteration 

A price change may be necessary the contract has 

been signed subject to signifi cant changes in transportation 

costs, cost of fuel, taxes and fares such as 

landing taxes or embarkation fees levied by ports 

and airports, and the exchange rate. 

Price alteration shall be proportional to the above 

mentioned costs and the cost details shall be provided 

to the Client. 

No price change is possible in the 20 days prior to 

the departure date.

7. Abandonment 

If for any reason whatsoever the Client is unable to 

proceed with a tour, Gadis Tourist Service will refund 

the Client subject to Gadis Tourist service being refunded 

by Third Party Suppliers. 

8. Minimum number of participants 

If a tour is subject to a minimum number of participants 

as outlined in the travel arrangements and 

that minimum number is not met, Gadis Tourist Service 

may have to cancel the tour 2 weeks in advance 

of the commencement. 

4. Alterations to travel arrangements 

Changes or alterations to the arrangements featured 

in the contract are allowed, provided that they are 

necessary, not signifi cant and do not aff ect the major 

features of the tour(see art. 6.2). 

Any changes, either requested by Gadis Tourist Service 

or the Client, must be made in writing. For any 

alterations requested by the Client Gadis Tourist Service 

reserves the right to levy a fee of € 29,00 to cover 

the costs incurred; Gadis Tourist Service is entitled to 

a price increase as a result of changes requested by 

the Client. 

9. Cooperation of the Client 

The Client undertakes to avoid or reduce any damages.

TIPPING AND EXTRAS 

Service is usually included in the bill. Sometimes restaurants 

will have „Pane e Coperto“ (bread and cover 

charge) on the bill, deck chairs and beach umbrella, 

telephone, drinks. 

Still, in Italy it is customary to leave a coin behind in 

cafes and bars (about 10% of the price).

of a winemaking family that has been producing 

superb wines since 1866. We visit the ageing cellar 

and the barricaia for sparkling wines that are produced

Shops are usually open from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm and

CLOTHING 

Although Italy has a mild climate, it is recommended 

to wear warm clothes in the low season. Churches 

in Italy are fi rst of all sacred places and not monuments, 

therefore casual wear is expected. It is not 

permitted to visit churches in miniskirts, shorts or in 

uncovered shoulders. Men must wear a shirt and are 

not permitted to wear short pants.

This small lovely restaurant run by family Fenili is 

one of our favourite places in Turin. The restaurant 

Gran Carlo is located in the city centre close to Porta 

Nuova railway station and via Roma. Although it 

really does not look attractive from the outside the 

restaurant is carefully furnished and off ers a cosy 

friendly ambience. The two dining rooms are furnished 

in diff erent style. 

Experienced chef „Grande Carlo“ prepares creative 

dishes typical of Piedmont while the rest of the family 

take care of customers and give guests the opportunity 

to sample true Italian hospitality as if you 

were invited to a friend’s place.

Café Platti is one of Turin’s oldest cafés renowned

in the 1970’s in the hills 50 km north of Turin by a 

group of hippies. Since then it has developed into an 

eco-society and in 2005 it received an award from 

the United Nations as a model for a sustainable society. 

Today the federation has about 1.500 members 

that live and work in 20 energy independent communities.

The heart of the federation is the Temple of Mankind, 

a vast beautiful temple that was built by hand 

in 16 years. 

The temples wave their way 72 m deep underneath 

a hillside for more than 8.500 cubic meter on fi ve 

diff erent levels - as high as a 11-fl oor building. The 

inside temple is decorated with frescoes and fl oor 

mosaics and has a glass roof. The „wonder of Piedmont“ 

can be visited daily upon reservation.

the Versailles of Piedmont, the residence is a

Pietro off the South West of Sardinia is always an

Chiara Vigo, a woman from Sant‘Antioco in Sardinia, 

is the only person left in Europe and maybe in the 

world to master and practice the art of byssus weaving. 

Byssus is an extraordinary material derived 

from the fi laments produced by a mollusc, the Pinna 

Nobilis (also known as the noble or large fan mussel), 

which can reach up to 1 metre in length. 

Every May Chiara dives and harvests the fi laments 

produced by the fan mussels from the sea bottom. 

Using a special technique, she then spins them into 

a sort of thread that is also known as “sea silk“. Chiara 

does not use it to make tablecloths, coasters and 

other articles for sale, but rather to give these as a 

gift to people who are as special as her art and her

based on the West coast or in Sardinia. Leaving Ajaccio 

we drive to the South of the island, an area which 

was already inhabited 7000 years ago – as witnessed 

by dolmens and menhirs – towards Olmeto and the 

charming town of Sartene, “the most Corsican town

1500 steps over the 

hectic world 

The pretty village Monteviasco lies a few km far 

from the much frequented Lake Maggiore on the 

Lombardy bank of the lake. In the 60’s the village 

had 400 inhabitants, today there are only 14 inhabitants 

as a consequence of depopulation. 

Until a few years ago Monteviasco could be reached 

by a trek up a stone stairway with 1500 steps (300 m 

height diff erence). For well-trained people this means 

60 minutes climbing through the forests in the 

Voralp. Today you can reach Monteviasco by cable 

car. In summer the children and grandchildren of 

the forrmer inhabitants come back to Monteviasco 

to renovate old houses, the church and the former 

kindergarten.

city of Gallura, Tempio Pausania, which is world famous 

as the centre of this cork-growing area. This

Sughero factory in Calangianus has been processing

Its name comes from the Italian “mozzare“,

This roughly triangular area stretches from the Apennine 

mountains (Appennino Emiliano) to the areas of 

Bologna, Modena, Reggio, Parma and Piacenza. To 

the North, it reaches the river Po; the Adriatic Sea 

forms the eastern border and the Apennine mountains 

mark the southern one. Its neighbouring regions 

are the Marche, Tuscany and Liguria. Most of 

Emilia is cultivated land which bears witness to the 

work of men. The area along the river Po banks was 

reclaimed from fl oods, ponds and brownfi elds and 

turned into a fertile crop area. 

Grain crops are largely grown, and Emilia is the major 

wheat producer in Italy. Other signifi cant crops are 

sugar beets and vegetables, especially tomatoes. 

Grapevine cultivation and cattle breeding are indeed 

staple activities, and their outcomes are used to prepare 

delicious traditional dishes. 

A region enclosed by the Apennine mountains, the 

river Po and the Adriatic Sea, with an exceptionally 

long and rich heritage of traditions, customs and 

history. 

Etruscan, Celtic, Roman, Lombard and Byzantine 

roots make this land culturally unique and diverse 

at the same time. All places here remind of ancient 

exploits, byzantine magnifi cence, stories of knights

in craft enterprises. We visit a cheese-maker in Cisternino 

and see how a “Mozzarellaro“ takes the soft 

cheese mass (pasta fi lata) by hand from a large container 

full of warm water and creates knots, braids 

and globes which you can eat straight away, whilst 

they are still warm. “Burrata“ is a special type of 

mozzarella which is made out of cream, butter and 

untreated strands of mozzarella – a veritable culinary 

masterpiece.

Although the borders of the historic region Romagna 

are still well-marked, it no longer is an administrative 

unit: it was split between Emilia (under article 131 

of the Italian Constitution) and the Marche. Nonetheless, 

its two parts remain somehow united: they 

share the same geophysical features and climate, as 

the region marks the transition between the river Po 

plain and the Italian peninsula. Moreover, common 

historical background and development, the same 

dialect and traditional colours help foster a sense of

Geography 

The Emilia Romagna region lies in northern Italy and 

counts 4.334.003 inhabitants (Begin 2009). Eastward 

it is delimited by the Adriatic Sea, in the north by the 

regions Veneto and Lombady, in the west by Piedmont 

and Liguria, south by Tuscany, the Marche and 

San Marino. 

Bologna is the capital of the region with its 374.561 

inhabitants. The other province capitals (Ferrara, 

Forlì-Cesena, Modena, Parma, Piacenza, Ravenna, 

Reggio Emilia, Rimini) have more than 100.000 inhabitants. 

Marche-shire The Marche was traditionally known as a region 

you had to cross on the way to somewhere else. The 

name itself comes from the old German “Mark“ and 

means “border“. Up until a few years ago, even Italians 

could not remember where the Marche was exactly 

and which town was the regional capital. However, 

the Marche was then discovered by wealthy 

Brits and became a buoyant property market for foreign 

investors. Even important newspapers such as 

the New York Times reported that “the real Italy lies 

between the Adriatic Sea and the Apennines“. The 

area is perfect for a pleasurable stay and the ideal 

starting point for many excursions. 

All three economic sectors are equally represented. 

Emilia Romagna harvests excellent and abundant 

crops; it produces mainly grains, potatoes, vegetables, 

fruit, wine grapes and sugar beet. Livestock 

(pigs, cattle and poultry) is also signifi cant. Industry 

is made up mainly of small and medium enterprises 

which operate in several sectors. Tourism is the major 

activity in the Riviera, which boasts the highest

Abruzzo: a new,

The Po valley was a war zone during the French- 

Spanish Italian Wars. Although the area experienced 

turmoil and the population repeatedly lived under 

siege, it remained one of the centres of Italian politics. 

History 

Several fi ndings demonstrate that Emilia Romagna 

was inhabited during Prehistory (Palaeolithic 

Age). Etruria’s infl uence over the area began very 

early, during the Villanovan Culture, but Etruscans 

gained actual control over both banks of the river 

Po only during later campaigns. From that moment 

on, a federation of cities was created to rule over the 

region. Its capital was Felsina (today’s Bologna). Supplies 

were delivered there from Spina, the harbour 

city located to the west of Comacchio. Adria, Ravenna 

and Rimini used to be other important harbours. 

Few regions can boast a nature as pristine as that of 

Abruzzo: mountain ranges where bears and wolves 

still roam, quiet hillside villages and long, sandy

the Peace of Campo Formio was signed. The treaty 

incorporated Emilia and Romagna into the Cisalpine 

Republic, which became Italian Republic from 1802 

to 1805. France subsequently annexed Parma and Piacenza, 

and the remaining area fell under the authority 

of the Kingdom of Italy. The Congress of Vienna 

fully restored the powers of the Papal States and of 

the pre-revolutionary dynasties. Parma and Piacenza 

were awarded to Marie Louise of Austria. After her 

death in 1847, they were restored to the Bourbons. 

At the beginning of the 5th century, the region’s 

prosperity was seriously compromised by a Celtic 

invasion. Felsina was renamed Bologna after the Boii 

Gauls. In the 3rd century BC the area was taken over 

by Romans, that eventually conquered the region in 

191 BC. Together with Liguria, it became a Roman 

province and it was crossed by the so-called Via Emilia 

(Aemilian Way). Afterwards, Emilia experienced 

revival, its central position being crucial both to politics 

and military aff airs.

Parmesan was created to expand trade beyond the 

local market. An easy to transport product, with a 

long storage life was called for: that’s why cheese 

was made. 

The traditional Parmigiano Reggiano recipe has never 

been altered: the cheese we savour today is made 

as it was in the Middle Ages. 

Its production area includes the provinces of Reggio 

Emilia, Modena, Parma, Bologna and Mantua. 

Parmigiano Reggiano is made from raw cow’s milk. 

Cows are fed only with local grass or hay. The whole 

milk from the morning milking is mixed with the 

naturally skimmed milk from the evening before, 

resulting in a part skim mixture. 

Fresh cheese has a slightly sweet taste, whereas 

aged Parmigiano Reggiano has a persistent and unmistakable 

aroma. It is traditionally grated or eaten

Pisano towards Pontedera takes us away from the

. The narow valley of Pieve a Compito leads us into 

true Tuscany with tiny quiet villages, steep sided valleys 

covered with olive groves, shiny hortensias and 

century-old coloured camelias. Set amidst this small 

valley is Villa Orsi, a countryside villa from the 19th 

century with a garden famous for its camelias. Beside,
