clearly indicated one fully adult animal, here given
as lectotype.

C o m m e n t s : Re-examined by H. A. Stork (in
Nierstrasz & Stork 1940: 43) who already suggested
not to distinguish N. grandis Thiele, 1894
from N. carinata Tullberg, 1875. They placed
grandis in synonymy of N. carinata Tullberg, as
did Salvini-Plawen (1986, 1997b). The missing serial
sections of the holotype (and other material
of Thiele) were given for comparative study to
Nierstrasz and later transferred together with
Amphimenia neapolitana and Rhopalomenia eisigi
to the collection of the Zoological Museum in
Amsterdam. It was sent back to the ZMB thankfully
by Robert Moolenbeek in November 2004
after uncovering the post-WW II odyssee of this
material (see more under A. neapolitana).

kerguelensis Salvini-Plawen, 2005 –

Ocheyoherpia kerguelensis Salvini-Plawen, 2005: 100, figs 1–4.
Ty p e l o c a l i t y : “Kerguelen”; South of the antarctic
circle; France, Antarctic-Kerguelen Islands,
DTE, station 160. Unfortunately, in the 1899
compilation of station numbers for the DTE expedition
on board “Valdivia” no precise coordinates
were given, but only a note that says “Gazelle
Basin” and “3.5–4.0 C surface temperature”.

with 1.15 mm, decalcified without calcerous bodies/spicules).
The latter specimen is illustrated in Fig. 2, prior to
histological sections (on n ¼ 10 slides) done by LvS-P in October
2004.
C o m m e n t s : This taxon was only provisionally
named kerguelensis by Johannes Thiele, as it is
evident from the labels accompagning the ZMB
material, but was never described in publication
by this author, thus providing only a manuscript
name without nomenclaturial bearings. Therefore,
the taxon was recently described as a species
of the genus Ocheyoherpia, now formally
named by Salvini-Plawen (2005) utilizing the
name “kerguelensis” as originally suggested by
Thiele. The taxon is tentatively transferred to
ordo Sterrofustia, family Phyllomeniidae.
