162 Prochaetodermatidae Salvini-Plawen, 1968 The family represents a cosmopolitan taxon based upon the single genus Prochaetoderma, Thiele, including today six (poorly defined) genera or subgenera with 25 named species. They are of small size, less than 5 mm, and mostly belong to the deep-sea fauna (Salvini-Plawen 1992; Scheltema & Ivanov 2000, 2004; Ivanov & Scheltema 2002). Thiele (1902c: 275) introduced Prochaetoderma for Chaetoderma radulifera Kowalevsky (1901), according to the description by this author, from the Marmara Sea. Today no original material is retained. Section C – List of nominal taxa housed in the Malacozoological Collection of the Museum of Natural History Berlin (ZMB), arranged according to current systematic affiliation The present catalogue comprises a total of 31 aplacophoran taxa, including six non-type taxa. Of these taxa n ¼ 23 were named and described originally by Johannes Thiele, with an additional four by Salvini-Plawen (1978, 2005), which are partly based on material first described by Thiele. With the exception of the caudofoveate Chaetoderma productum Wirén, 1892 all aplacophorans in the ZMB are Solenogastres. They are assigned to 20 genera, following the classification suggested by Salvini-Plawen (1978). For a characterization of the genera see e.g. Salvini-Plawen (1967). Currently, 29 out of the 31 aplacohoran taxa are considered valid species, two are considered synonyms (i.e. Neomenia grandis of N. carinata, and Rhopalomenia eisigi of R. aglaopheniae). A third, Ocheyoherpia kerguelensis Salvini-Plawen, 2005 was newly described, based on material provisionally named but not described and published as valid name by J. Thiele. The following list is considered the most recent classification on aplacophoran molluscs, and essentially follows that suggested by Salvini-Plawen (1978) with additions in Salvini-Plawen (2004). Type species of genera are given in bold, synonyms are given as “¼”; original generic assigments are in square parentheses. Numbers refer to footnotes below.
