of Laval’s executive committee Alexandre
Duplessis gave the Social Citizenship
Certificate to 75 of Laval’s young volunteers
at a civic ceremony held at the Maison des
arts. Many members of the city’s political
and community scene attended this event,
part of the Droit de cité program.
“The future of our society is in your
hands. You are the ones who will shape
our future and take charge, and this
will happen much sooner than you may
think,” Duplessis said. “I honestly believe
that you deserve our trust and that you
will become influencial adults in your
respective environments.”
The Droit de Cité program is aimed
at increasing youth involvement in the
community by helping them acquire the
knowledge, resources and the structures
of their surroundings. It also enables
youngsters to develop a feeling of belonging
to their environment by getting involved
as preparation to active citizenship.
The Social Citizenship Certificate is a
token of recognition given by the City of

Laval’s young volunteers honoured
Laval and is offered to youngsters who
have accumulated more than a hundred
hours of volunteer work, validated by local
organizations.
164 athletes, coaches,
clubs honoured

TCN- The City of Laval and the Sports
Laval organization held the 36th annual
Mérite Sportif Lavallois gala on November
14 to honour the City’s shining stars.
During this event, Laval Mayor Gilles
Vaillancourt marked the performances
of Laval’s athletes and coaches who distinguished
themselves over the past few
months during provincial, national and
international events.
164 people, clubs and associations were
honoured during that evening. Five athletes
received the gold medal of the Mérite
Sportif Lavallois for their participation in
an international event, 12 others received
the silver for their accomplishments on
the national scene while 112 athletes and
coaches were rewarded with the bronze
for their participation on the provincial
scene.
The Sports Laval organization took
advantage of the occasion to give 35 bursaries
to athletes, clubs and associations
having distinguished themselves over the
past few months.
Two special guests were in attendance:
international-level wrestler Martine
Grenier and the president of Sports Laval,
Pierre-Alain Rodrigue. The Mayor congratulated
all recipients and marked their
passion and their determination for their
respective sports.
