The <strong>Hardee</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>School</strong> District was the first district in the state to utilize this type <strong>of</strong> contract. The<br />
success <strong>of</strong> the performance contract with Johnson Controls generated savings <strong>of</strong> more than $3.1<br />
million and allowed for facility upgrades and future planning. The presentation included pictures <strong>of</strong><br />
the facilities ten years ago; and pictures after restorations. Johnson Controls presented an award to<br />
the <strong>Board</strong> in recognition <strong>of</strong> the positive efforts made to promote the efficient use <strong>of</strong> energy and<br />
provide a safe and comfortable learning environment.<br />

NEW BUSINESS<br />

(Mr. Dick) - Student Progression Plan. Changes that are required will be<br />
presented at the next meeting.<br />
- Class Size-Reduction. Mr. Moore has taken a proactive approach in<br />
recruitment and has worked hard to get good quality people.<br />
- Reading Academy. One-hundred teachers have signed up. Teachers<br />
are taking curriculum seriously.<br />
- Back-To-<strong>School</strong>. August 2 nd at 8:00 a.m. there will be a general back<br />
to school program at the Civic Center. The program with begin at 8:30<br />
a.m. with special guest Hazel Haley, Florida’s longest serving teacher will<br />
speak about her 68 years in the classroom. HEA/United will provide<br />
refreshments beginning at 8:00 a.m.<br />

Bev DeBoom, President <strong>of</strong> HEA/United, invited the <strong>Board</strong> to the junior high school on<br />
Friday at 7:00 a.m. for the groundbreaking <strong>of</strong> a Butterfly Garden in memory <strong>of</strong> Libby<br />
Gilliard.<br />
