The pond went completely dry. They knew that they could not<br />
stay any longer; they needed full canteens for their two-day hike<br />
out of the valley_ They decided that they would return as soon as<br />
possible, by helicopter, with help, to find Bummer.<br />
They sorrowfully began bushwacking through the woods,<br />
searching for the old logging road that would lead out of the<br />
valley. They were grieved about leaving Bummer behind, and<br />
confused about the dehydrated land. They wanted to get home as<br />
quickly as possible; their rainbow valley had turned into a<br />
stained nightmare.<br />
