Candidates’ Education: A total of 94 (60%) candidates (out of 156 analyzed from Bangalore)<br />
are graduates or have higher degrees in the Karnataka 2013 Assembly Elections.<br />
Candidates’ Age: A total of 6 candidates, out of the 156 that have been analyzed, are of more<br />
than 70 years of age. 42 candidates are aged 40 years or less.<br />
Women Candidates: Out of 156 candidates analyzed, 16 (10%) women are contesting from<br />
Bangalore in the Karnataka 2013 Assembly Elections. Out of the 16 women contesting from<br />
Bangalore, 6 belong to the Loksatta Party, 4 belong to KJP, 3 from JD(S), 2 from the INC followed<br />
by BSRC who has fielded one woman candidate.<br />
Bangalore, April 25th, 2013: <strong>Association</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Democratic</strong> Re<strong>for</strong>ms (ADR) and Karnataka Election<br />
Watch (KEW), the Karnataka chapter of National Election Watch (NEW), a nationwide campaign<br />
comprising of more than 1200 NGOs and other citizen led organizations, has been working on<br />
electoral re<strong>for</strong>ms, improving democracy and governance in India. Karnataka Election Watch<br />
(KEW) has analyzed affidavits of 156 candidates contesting from Bangalore in the Karnataka<br />
2013 Assembly Elections. This report is based on the analysis of these affidavits.<br />
