is to maintain this meeting as the premier get-together for
researchers involved in all areas of radiation research and also to
enrich the objectives of the RRS. With this in mind, it is planned
to organize a memorable scientifi c meeting to encourage both
formal and informal interactions between scientists and scholarsin
training in a beautiful and relaxing environment and to promote
the next generation of radiation researchers. We are also looking
forward to enriching the meeting by welcoming scientists from
around the globe and in particular from the Pacifi c Rim countries.
Please contribute your latest research to make this a really
memorable and truly interdisciplinary meeting at the forefront of
radiation sciences.
Resort Hotel & Spa, Maui, Hawaii. All presenters at the RRS
2010 meeting are expected to register for the meeting. Meeting
Authority to Submit
Each abstract must have an RRS member as either the sponsor or
responsible author. Each member may be either the responsible
author or the sponsor of only one abstract, although members
may co-author additional abstracts for which other author
members are responsible. The sponsor of each paper, whether
an author or not, must be indicated in the “Sponsor” box in
submission. Applicants for RRS membership will be treated as
members for the purpose of sponsoring a paper for the meeting.
(To request a membership application, go to the RRS web site –
www.radres.org.) The sponsor of each paper, whether he/she is
an author or not, must have their RRS membership dues up to
date in order to have an abstract accepted.

For authors of abstracts from Pacifi c Rim countries the same
criteria apply but the abstract must now be sponsored by a
member of their National Radiation Research Society or a RRS
member and indicate in the ‘Sponsor’ box on submission.
Be sure to indicate the name of the person who is to present the
paper — it will be underlined in the printed program book. The
name of each non-member will be followed by an asterisk (*)
in the program book.
Abstract Content and Format
All presentations must be scientifi c in nature and without inclusion
of commercial messages or inappropriate references to specifi c
products, services, or commercial concerns.
The title should be in lower case letters with only the fi rst word
capitalized. EXAMPLE: Temperature dependence of ionizing
radiation effect on dry preparations of bacterial enzymes.
The body of the abstract should be single-spaced. Tables, graphs,
and structural formulae may not be included, although simple
mathematical formulae are acceptable.
Abstract Categories
As much as possible, abstracts will be placed within the following
categories.
Abstract Categories:
• Physico-chemical events
• Mutagenesis/clastogenesis/carcinogenesis
• Cell and tissue kinetics/signaling/microenvironment
• Bystander effects/adaptive responses
• DNA damage induction, repair and the DNA damage response
• Radiation protection – biodosimetry
• Radiation protection - protectors/mitigators/treatment
• High LET/space radiation effects/dose rate effects
• Stem cells
• Experimental therapeutics and translational research
• Epidemiology
Presentation
Poster dimensions are limited to 4’ x 4’. Each poster should include
a heading with title and author(s) using lettering at least 25 mm
(1”) high. The abstract should be part of the poster presentation.
make an affi rmation when applying online. To avoid any delays in
submission, prepare a brief resume (2 page limit) offl ine and save
it as a text, Word or WordPerfect (.txt, .doc or .wpd) fi le before
starting your online application. The resume should describe your:
2. Honors and relevant experience
3. Description of current training program and objectives, including a
description of how the program relates to the radiation sciences.
4. List of relevant publications
SIT Travel Award Criteria
RRS shall provide travel awards of up to $700 (depending on
the availability of funds), waive of registration fee and additional
amounts for Merit Awards to encourage the participation of SITs
at the meeting and to recognize the quality of their scientifi c
submissions. Selection of SIT Travel Award recipients shall be
based upon an evaluation of their abstracts and travel award
application. The criteria for consideration are
1. A person may apply for an SIT Travel Award, regardless of
current degree, as long as he/she is working towards a higher
degree (e.g., Ph.D., M.D., and D.V.M.), or is in a post-graduate
training program (post doctoral, research associate, etc.).
2. The online application must be completed and affi rmed by both
the faculty sponsor and the institution’s department chair.
3. The applicant must submit an abstract via online submission by
SIT Scientifi c Merit Awards
1. The Marie Curie Travel Award honors the outstanding scholarin-training
from the top fi ve ranked recipients of the SIT travel awards.
2. The Jack Fowler Award honors an outstanding SIT based on
an evaluation of their abstract.

SIT Registration Discount
As an additional incentive for SITs (1) to participate in the annual
meeting and (2) to contribute to the scientifi c proceedings, RRS
shall provide a $100 discount off the normal meeting registration
rate for any SIT who submits an abstract that is accepted by the
SIT Workshop
The RRS is pleased to announce, for the fourth year, a special
one-day education workshop for Scholar-in-Training (SIT) members
on Saturday, September 25, 2010, which is one day prior to the
RRS Meeting. The aim of the radiobiology education workshop is
to provide young scientists, post-doctoral fellows and graduate
students with a fundamental knowledge of radiobiological
principles and an in-depth understanding of current issues in the
fi eld of translational research. This program has been established
through generous grants from the National Cancer Institute (NCI),
the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID),
the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and
the Department of Energy (DOE). SIT members accepted for
this workshop will therefore be able to attend at little extra cost.
