The Basics of Treatment Planning for SBRT
• The goal of SBRT treatment is to “ablate” tissues within
the PTV, these tissues were not considered at risk for
complications.
Dose inhomogeneity inside the PTV was considered
acceptable (potentially advantageous) and not
considered a priority in plan design.
Maximum point dose up to 160% of Prescription Dose is
common for SBRT plans.
• The main objective of the plan is to minimize the volume
of those normal tissues outside PTV receiving high dose
per fraction.
