Biographical and Administrative Timeline<br />

<strong>Signetics</strong>, a c<strong>on</strong>tracti<strong>on</strong> of Signal Network Electr<strong>on</strong>ics, was founded in 1961 in Mountain<br />

View, California by former Fairchild employees David Allis<strong>on</strong>, David James, Li<strong>on</strong>el<br />

Kattner and Mark Weissenstein. It was <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> first company in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> world established<br />

expressly <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> make and sell integrated circuits (IC). Within a year of its founding, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

company’s first family of bipolar digital diode transis<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>r logic circuits had gained market<br />

acceptance and were finding initial applicati<strong>on</strong> in military and space systems. <strong>Signetics</strong><br />

was <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> first IC company <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> receive both Minuteman approval (1967) and NASA line<br />

certificati<strong>on</strong> (1970). Am<strong>on</strong>g <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> company’s early innovati<strong>on</strong>s were <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> 555 timer, Dolby<br />

circuits, and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> programmable read-<strong>on</strong>ly memory.<br />
