Find your log-in ID on the mailing panel of Portico, your alumni magazine. 8 PORTiCO WinTeR 2007 Get involved in your alma mater Give the gift of time to the UIndy community. Get involved today! Admissions Refer high-caliber high school students. Suggest they come for a campus visit. Request a fee waiver ($20 value), available to alumni, to present to a prospective student. Be an alumni sponsor of a student who is applying for the Alumni Scholarship. Help at regional college fairs. Target cities in need of volunteers (training provided) include Chicago, Louisville, Cincinnati, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Grand Rapids (Mich.), and Nashville (Tenn.). Provide phone and meeting space for Admissions summer representatives (UIndy students) to call and/or meet with prospective students in your area. Inquire about the Legacy Alumni Scholarship, which is available to all children and grandchildren of alumni. Send two of your business cards to the Alumni Office for inclusion in a networking binder displayed in the beautiful new Admissions Office lobby. It’s a great way for prospective students and families to see how our alumni have succeeded. Legacy Program Provide names of relatives interested in enrolling at the University, giving them the chance to receive a legacy scholarship. Alumni Career Connection Help our students and alumni who need a job by being a contact for the Office of Career Services, referring openings, or hiring a University of Indianapolis student intern or fellow graduate. Young Alumni Work with other graduates of the last decade to plan events and services especially for those who are young and young at heart. Alumni International Ambassadors Help the Office of International Programs welcome international students to campus and to the U.S. and help with other special needs throughout the year. ‘Across the Miles’ Contact Be an alumni resource contact in your city.
Cool Career Connections Alumni Central— http://alumni.uindy.edu Created especially for job seekers and employers, Alumni Central, the new online community for UIndy grads, was launched last year specifically to help alumni find career positions through the “hidden job market” of alumni-to-alumni connections. Network with other alumni for professional and personal benefit in the Business Card Exchange. Search the job listings or post your résumé for other alumni to view. Employers can post a job opening, too, in hopes of hiring a UIndy grad. While this online community is exclusive to our grads, employers can register separately to post career positions and review alumni résumés. UIndy Office of Career Services— http://careers.uindy.edu Alumni, do you need career assistance? Are you looking for career alternatives, need job search techniques or want help connecting with employers? Could you benefit from the UIndy career library? Or, you may be looking for a meaningful way to help students in their search for an internship or beginning career position, or to help other alumni as they look for professional opportunities. Volunteer to give advice to current students and fellow alums, to participate in office and campus programs, and report career opportunities in your organization or community. Take advantage of these great services available through the Office of Career Services: (317) 788- 3296; ocs@uindy.edu; http://careers.uindy.edu/ SIGI 3 (Pronounced “siggy.”) SIGI 3 is a state-of-the- art online career guidance system that can help clarify career interests and values and suggest career alternatives. Interest and Preference Inventories Two popular and sophisticated tools, the Strong Interest Inventory and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, are used to examine interests and preferences on a range of familiar subjects. These assessments are available online but are offered in the context of career counseling with a Career Services staff member. You may also request a great paper-and-pencil tool called the Career Exploration Inventory. ‘JobHoundConnect’ for Job Seekers and Recruiters JHC is a password-protected data management and referral system that allows students and alumni to check out employer profiles, view job information, post their résumés, and refer themselves and be referred to organizations in the market for college-educated talent. While most of the opportunities listed in JHC are preprofessional or beginning career positions, there are others that will appeal to experienced workers, depending on the field or specialty. You can also get help in hiring an intern or UIndy graduate.
