The performance of a dissertation research project<br />

is not the result of the efforts of any one person.<br />

Instead, it is the culmination of intellectual interactions<br />

between a primary researcher and an interested dissertation<br />

committee. Each of my committee members played vital roles<br />

in this research endeavor. All were instrumental in aiding<br />

me in formulating my research proposal. Professor Marilynn<br />

Winborne, my initial director, aided me in broadening the<br />

scope of my ideas on possible dissertation topics from<br />

limited topics to the selection of the final topic. In<br />

addition, her advice was instrumental in the development of<br />

the first draft. Professor William Barrett, who assumed the<br />

directorship upon Professor Winborne's resignation from the<br />

faculty, provided the guidance necessary in transforming the<br />

draft into a completed dissertation. His guidance made a<br />

difficult task much more palatable. Professor John Trimm<br />

provided the necessary guidance in the communication area<br />

and in developing the interview techniques. Professor<br />

Edwin Bump, who was appointed to the committee to fill the<br />

vacancy created by Professor Winborne's resignation, pro­<br />

vided fresh insights that enabled the development of more<br />

defensible relationships between the investigative data and<br />

the related conclusions. Professor Philip Hudson provided<br />
