ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
The performance of a dissertation research project
is not the result of the efforts of any one person.
Instead, it is the culmination of intellectual interactions
between a primary researcher and an interested dissertation
committee. Each of my committee members played vital roles
in this research endeavor. All were instrumental in aiding
me in formulating my research proposal. Professor Marilynn
Winborne, my initial director, aided me in broadening the
scope of my ideas on possible dissertation topics from
limited topics to the selection of the final topic. In
addition, her advice was instrumental in the development of
the first draft. Professor William Barrett, who assumed the
directorship upon Professor Winborne's resignation from the
faculty, provided the guidance necessary in transforming the
draft into a completed dissertation. His guidance made a
difficult task much more palatable. Professor John Trimm
provided the necessary guidance in the communication area
and in developing the interview techniques. Professor
Edwin Bump, who was appointed to the committee to fill the
vacancy created by Professor Winborne's resignation, pro­
vided fresh insights that enabled the development of more
defensible relationships between the investigative data and
the related conclusions. Professor Philip Hudson provided
