We’ll read many stories and even make up<br />
some stories of our own. Then we’ll make<br />
paintings and collages with clay, fabric, buttons<br />
and more, creating art about <strong>the</strong> characters<br />

Students will explore new materials and basic<br />
forms such as mountains, trees and animals.<br />
By using a base for <strong>the</strong> objects, each sculpture<br />
will be dipped and covered with plaster and<br />

Students will use traditional sculpture materials<br />
such as clay, plaster and wood to make a<br />
series of abstract sculptural work. Students<br />
will gain technical skills and practice selfexpression.<br />

Students will learn how to use <strong>the</strong> potter’s<br />
wheel as well as some hand-building techniques<br />
to create functional and nonfunctional<br />
ceramic pieces. They’ll also explore various<br />
methods of glazing, surface texture and alternatives<br />
in firing. Each class offers new experiences<br />
and projects so students may take this<br />
class more than once.<br />

We’ll explore paintings, pictures and stories<br />
and <strong>the</strong> places <strong>the</strong>y take us. Then using many<br />
colors of paint, and many ways to paint, we<br />
will create our own paintings to display at<br />
home!<br />

Fossil Hunters Su13.18<br />
Combining <strong>the</strong> spirit and adventure of paleontology<br />
with <strong>the</strong> fun of art making, students<br />
will piece toge<strong>the</strong>r some of <strong>the</strong> world’s greatest<br />
mysteries. They’ll study dinosaur bones<br />
and o<strong>the</strong>r fossils, make dinosaur footprints<br />
and giant jaws filled with prehistoric teeth.<br />

Rockets, Comets & <strong>the</strong> Milky Way Su13.19<br />
Students will blast off into outer space in<br />
rockets made from interesting materials.<br />
They’ll paint comets that glow in <strong>the</strong> dark,<br />
learn about stars and create mobiles of <strong>the</strong><br />
planets.<br />

Pouring Paint Su13.20<br />
Students will look at artwork by painters who<br />
drip, pour and stain canvas. They’ll learn<br />
about <strong>the</strong> process of mixing colors and diluting<br />
paint while experimenting with techniques<br />
of applying different types of paint to<br />
canvas and paper.<br />
Ages 7-9 / Steven Bankhead<br />
Stop Motion Animation Su13.21<br />
Students will be introduced to basic animation<br />
concepts, using techniques of stop motion<br />
animation. They’ll animate objects, sand,<br />
clay and <strong>the</strong>ir own bodies to produce a stop<br />
motion video.<br />
